Software instrument selected during playback = big latency spikes

I have found one of the things that has been giving me big playback/latency problems and strange cpu spike behaviour

As it states in the Logic manual, if the track you are currently selected on is a software instrument, logic goes into overdrive on the offchance that you may play that instrument in realtime

It also seems to only use one of the cores when doing this, resulting in a huge spike of the cpu reading of the affected core during playback

Make sure when you're playing back that the enabled track is an audio track or a 'blank' instrument track

See the difference between playing a song with an active instrument track selected and just an audio track selected - on my dual g5 it's the difference between the track playing, or not!

So it seems I have solved one of my stop-start mysteries. Haven't seen this posted anywhere here yet so just thought I'd share.

Thanks for the info.

I had a similar problem running a single EXS with the Yamaha piano patch.
The part I recorded had the sustain pedal controller info across the
entire region.

I did read about this behavior somewhere before, dunno if it was in the manual
or on a web page...don't remember. I'll have to go back and check it out.
What I do notice is that my track will play fine until it gets to the software inst
track's first region, then it stops. ugh.
