logic 8 and ussing effects

I am finding in Logic 8 that some of my inserts are only showing up on the final output on the mixer. They dont show up on individual tracks and so i cant use them to process idividual instruments.

Also some only show up as midi controlled effects on individual tracks and if I select this as the input then I cant select an instrument to use the effect on

Anyone else having these problems and are there any solutions

Try turning your mono channel into a stereo with the little circle icon under the fader. If a plug in is only stereo it may not show up in the list of a mono channel.
