Thread Starter | Mac PPC with 30" Cinema Display?
I have a Mac Power PC dual 2Ghz, (last series before the Intel), running two monitors and am considering changing to a single 30" cinema display. The graphic card is a nvidia GeForce 6600. According to the apple website, the 30" will run on this machine. My question is: will it run at full resolution and will there be any disadvantages such as longer delays when changing screensets in Logic etc.? Also, has anyone noticed more hand fatigue due to the longer mouse movements required to navigate the larger screen? Any more stress on the CPU? Anyone have real world experience with this setup? Thanks. |

Hi. I would rather run 2 monitors than 1 30" monitor. It has been discussed quite a bit and I think the majority agree. While it looks impressive to have the 1 big monster, I really prefer having the 2 monitors. You should go and spend some time with one at an Apple store or retailer and see if you like it. Nate |

your graphics card have to support dual-link connection (it's one cable, not two) mouse movements are not problematic at all... you just need to set your mouse speed and acceleration acordingly... then it is "normal" I don't feel any system slowdowns since I have this 2650x1600 monster, no slow redraws or anything. But my system is 4core PC with 8600gt card. The most problematic is a small pixel size and need to put the monitor further away (because of audio monitors and also it is good to see whole monitor and not to move your head too much ;-) I didn't want to have multiple monitors, because I like to focus on one screen. It is very flexible in terms of workspace organization, more that two panels. It is more pricey than two monitors though. It is a matter of personal tastes like a lot of things. |

30" Apple CInema on a PPC Dual 2.7 here, and I love it. Great step up from two 19" monitors. The one big screen is a lot more flexible, in terms of locating mix and edit windows and other peripheral stuff. It's a fantastic display.

Why stop at two? I run a 24" Ultra sharp Dell for center flanked by two Ultra Sharp 20". Absolutley love it! Though you need two video cards. I will never go back to a single or even a double again.
