I have a G4 dual 1 gig that I'm using since Logic 8 came out. I had a window pop up that said my computer wasn't supported when I first ran Logic 8, but I clicked the "do not show again" box and everything is working fine. I think it runs better than Logic 7.

FWIW, I installed Logic 8 on a dual processor 1.25 ghz G4 w/2gigs RAM, and it was pathetic. I've used Logic since Version 3.5 and every upgrade till now was smooth. Logic 8 would freeze with ONE stereo track and a couple of loops. CPU spikes all over the place, moving a fader would bring out the beach ball for 45 seconds at a time, etc. To say it was a letdown is an understatement...with some fiddling around and making some room on the startup drive I got it working somewhat better, but it's little more than a toy. The same machine ran Logic 6 in OS 9 and had no problems running 45 or 50 tracks with lots of plugins.

(bump)

nobody?...

it's kinda hard to believe I'm the only one around here who's not exactly thrilled with Logic 8 (especially considering some of the flak on some of the other forums)

If you're asking me, according to the Apple specifications page, I have a "NVIDIA GeForce4 MX with 64MB of DDR SDRAM". I'm not saying Logic 8 runs great on that computer, I do have some problems, but the computer is six years old. I'm able to get 16-24 mono audio tracks, a couple EXS24 samplers, maybe a VI and around 20, mostly Logic, plug-ins running before I have to start freezing the tracks. I'm planning to buy a Mac Pro in the next couple weeks. I record mostly small, 3-4 piece, groups and I usually have to start freezing the tracks toward the end of the mix. It gets me by, but it would be nice if I didn't have to freeze the tracks at all.

Logic Pro 8 on G4/400 -> Upg. Sonnet 1,8 GHz

@ trippy

I tried to install L8 on a G4/1.2 (G4/400 AGP with Sonnet CPU) with 1,5 G RAM. The Installer stopped the install process with a lot of messages an there was no way to pass them by. We have to keep the G4 for its OS9 and Classic capabilities and so I decided to install an 1.8 Sonnet CPU an a ATI 9800 Pro AGP Graphic Card. With these Upgrades I was able to install Leopard and L8 on the machine. The OS seems to run rather smooth. O.k. operations on the finder an mouseclicks seem to have a delay of some miiliseconds or so but you are able to browse through the Dock without remarkable delays. The machine has two internal HDs (80 and 200 GByte) and System 9.2 and Tiger are still alive on it. So I installed Logic 6 (Dongled Version) on OS 9 and L8 under Tiger. Installation of the six DVDs L8 took several hours (!) (becauseo of the lame DVD??) while L6 (One single CD-ROM) was installed in a few minutes. I am a bloody newbie to Logic but even after optimizing everything in the audio setup, Apple Audio/Midi setup and so on I was not able to run the Brandi Demo Song (Stereo) from Demo DVD. CPU Overloads stopped the song every second. After freezing all! tracks (track after track) the song could be run but with a very annoying distorted sound. I have no demo material for L6 on Tiger. But this combination seems to run like a rocket compared to L8 on Leopard.

Note: Of course - after installing from disk I run all Online-Updates for the OS an the applications;-)
