Which folders does the Logic 8 upgrade delete from Logic 7?

I was just about to install L8 (upgrade from L7) but happened to read the disclaimer/warning on the first install screen saying that files of the same name from Logic 7 may be overwritten and lost.

I'd like to keep my options open to return to L7 if I wish or even carry on working with it (to be honest I have zero issues with it) so I want to be 100% sure that I'm not going to lose anything.

Can anyone enlighten me as to which files are at risk?

Tx all.

I read that you can continue using L7 no problem....

But..

I also read you should rename your Logic Pro App to Logic Pro 7 to distinguish a difference or something like that?

So your question is a very good one, i'd like to know the same thing as Logic 7 works good for me too!!!

Zz.

Installing Logic 8 (Studio) does nothing that messes up Logic 7.

Probably worrying about nothing but this is the from the install disc...

Before You Install Logic Studio

This document covers system requirements and other information that should be considered before installing the Logic Studio applications and content.

WARNING: If you have installed Logic Express or Logic Pro 7 on your computer, the Logic Studio installer will delete some of the files in the Logic 7 factory content folder: Files with names identical to the default Logic 7 factory content files are deleted. Files with different names are moved to a new folder, called Previous Logic Settings. Logic Studio uses a new location for impulse response settings; Logic Pro 7 impulse response files remain unaffected. An existing installation of the Logic Express or Logic Pro 7 application will not be deleted by Logic Pro 8, allowing you to continue working with it.

If by 'factory content' that just means presets from all those EXS24 library sounds that never get used then fine but it's not clear. Ashermusic, which files do you think it means given that L7 still works ok?

Thanks.

If you want to keep your Space Designer settings copy them to other location. In my case Logic 8 installer deleted the settings but kept the corresponding SDIR files.

Unfortunately tho, it wiped a ton of EXS instruments I had imported, from Sample Cell and a few other place. According to the update manual, it should have put them in a folder called "previous Logic Settings" but so far I can't find it. I'm an idiot, I should have backed this stuff up but I was rushing to install 8, always a bad idea

I am guessing tings like Sampler Instruments, Channel Strip settings, etc.

What I meant when I said it does not mess up 7 is that you still can one up 7, load in any songs that were created before in other versions, and close it, open up 8 and use it, close it, open up 7 and use it, etc.

i keep all my Sampler Instruments on a separate drive so all I had to do was re-create the alias on my main drive.
