Logic 8 Authorization

Hey. Just wondering how the logic 8 authorization process works. I have 3 machines that I move my key between so I am wondering how it all works. Is there a limit to how many computers you can use it on.

In other words: Who's going to be the first to bother reading the agreement? e :-)

I'll take a stab. The lisc permits you to install ONE copy on your desktop computer and ONE copy on your laptop. So basically 2 copies so long as one is on your desktop and the other is on your laptop. And you are not allowed to run it on more than on computer at a time. And you can legally make backup copies of the DVD (but they have to include all the legal/copyright notices).

Oh! And you can't use the software in a Nuclear facility. This part is clearly spelled out in the agreement in bold.

So it's not legal to install it on the 3 computers and go back and forth. But if they aren't being used simultaneously I don't think it's much of an offense.

I have a client who is legally blind and needed to install quicken or quickbooks or something like that. i was there so I offered to install it quickly. The authorization online didn't work so I had to call. I explained that I wasn't the actual owner of the software, just someone helping out (big mistake). The tech insisted that they talk to the actual person who bought the software. To which I replied "So basically you just need to talk to someone with a different voice than mine and you are satisfied?" Adding the comment "Would it help if I simply lowered the pitch of my voice". But the sarcasm was lost as they did not seem to understand the implication of the pointlessness of the request. I had all the information, credit card, serial number, address, phone number everything. So once m client got on the phone with the tech, the tech started to then ask for all of that info. To which my client replied "I'm legally blind, I can't read any of this stuff (serial numbers, etc).

After that hassle, They asked if I planned on installing it on more than one computer. I informed them that the plan was to keep the data on a USB drive and install the software on a iMac and a laptop because they may need to enter data on the road. They asked if more than one person was going to use it. I then made the mistake of being honest and saying that it would be possible because often someone else had to help use the software because of the blindness, and it might not always be the same person (people come and go for hire). To which they said was not allowed.

"OK, so only one person is going to use it." was the only response I could think of to get out of a mindless conversation. I am still perplexed to this day by that conversation!

FYI

Logic 8 checks the network to see if any other copies using the same serial number are running.

So apple is going into your machine to find info about your computer?

I doubt it. I think it's just like that old Photoshop protection where it just does a network check to see if any computers on the same network are running the same program and if it has the same serial number. I just happened to notice it when i forgot to close the app, and launched it on my laptop just to poke around.

Send a message via MSN to pichu
from what I hear from you guys it seems like logic studio works in a similar way as final cut studio, you can install in as many computers as you like but can not use more than one computer at the same time on a network, so basically just disconnect your ethernet cable if you want to use logic studio at the same time on 2 or more computers.

they do that all the time in a production company that runs final cut from a single serial number on different macs.

great!
