Lindy firewire expresscard, the end of PC laptop firewire probs?

Found this the other day, has a Texas Instruments chipset. Has anyone tried one?

HI,
adding a TI chipset card to a poor chipset laptop does NOT fix the issues.

if you have ricoh,ENE, Orange Micro (with Express slot) you are hosed

adding good after bad does not help the bad

My first thought was, BS, but then I saw who was posting... (and I have no direct knowledge of the particulars. )

Why is that, Scott?

I've never heard that before but you have a lot of credibility with me...

Hey Blue,
thanks!

heres the deal alot of interface wil not be recognised by a poor chipset.
Presonus/focusrite/Mackie come to mind.

adding the TI chipset Express slot card will then allow these units to finally work.

however and here is the biggy.

when the original chipset is bad (the ones i mentioned, and only applies to newer Express card slot/dual core not older single core)

its performance is poor. EG the lowest buffer you might see is 512

its like trying to shove water from an 8" water pipe (bandwidth ability of TI chipset) thru a 1" water pipe (bandwidth ability of the poor chipset)

a proper chipset (TI) thats NATIVE on the laptop will alow for as low as 64 buffer.

its kinda like having a Lynx card then using a behringer mic pre (only in reverse)
or hooking up a Benchmark/Mytec to a sound blaster....

we went thru alot of laptops before we finally found a few good ones (even became Apple dealers over this)

obviously we tried using TI add in cards to no avail. (at least not what we consider acceptable)

HI the 945 is the norfthbridge chipset (main chipset)
i am talking about the chipset used for Express slot/cardbus (if there is one) firewire, card reader etc. (this is the secondary chipset)

more on it here laptop issues

nope bad news
Texas Intruments its the only thing that works right
some laptops who have ENE chipset have Via firewire this is the only thing that has a hope of working 1/2 way ok.

note all this applies to newer laptops with Express slot. older single core with PCMCIA actually did ok with Ricoh, ENE. O2 Micro is Orange micro... and have always been an issue.

aside from 1 other company (only thier 17" has TI)
