I'd take the quad, format and get all the preload junk of it and load it with XP and feel fine about it..

The only real problem I would see with it is the ability to upgrade is more or less non existent. 1 PCI slot doesn't really help much.

Also the motherboard quality isn't something Id value lol but thats pretty easy to fix if need be.

All in all I would worry too much about it being a HP off the store shelf, I think it'll be just fine.

Cheap components put together by the lowest bidder, lack ports for future upgrade (if you ever want to run dual monitores, add an internal audio interface or things as simple as adding USB or firewire ports)

Why in the world would you buy a computer and pay for Vista, AND then go and pay for another XP license? It seems to be a waste of time AND money. Speaking of, in a studio, your time is money. Downtime and non-booked hours kill you. Keep it booked, and you'll do ok. Don't book enough because of downtime and you're screwed.

If I am to buy a computer, I either want it to come with no OS, or come with the OS I want.

Because I already own a copy XP. Not many computers out there today come with XP.

I have a PC that came with Vista I didnt want. I wiped it out and installed a pirate copy of XP. I figure the money I paid for the Vista translates over tp my pirate XP so I feel OK with it lol

While to a degree I agree with you, it's rationalizing, and doesn't make it right. You've got a studio. Treat it professionally and keep stuff legit.

Build one yourself or pic the wright parts and let someone else put it together, that's the only way you will have all quality parts.
