Thread Starter | Problems with my Mbox2 Pro's alt RCA phono inputs??
Hi, Among other reasons, I recently picked up a new Mbox 2 Pro for session compatability since I primarily use Logic. Anyway, my problem is that when trying to record into the alt. phono RCA inputs on the Mbox2 Pro, the level was waaay hot and I can't seem to find where the input sensitivity can be adjusted from +4/-10 (although I thought phono RCA's were always at -10). FYI - the source is the RCA line out's from an older Sony Hi-8 camcorder. What gives? Thanks1 |

The problem is you're trying to put a line level signal into a phono input. They are not the same. Phono gain stages are much higher then line level, hence you're too hot signal. Most phono stages have 20db+ of gain to bring a turntables low signal up to line level. That's why you can just plug a turntable into any line level input and have it work. Sorry.

If i'm not mistaken, these "phono inputs" are only meant to be used by turntables whom signal needs to be amplified.... not as line-in!!! I just hope you didn't damage your m-box... ![]() Phono input - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

hmm, that's a bit of a bummer. If this is the case, then why was I able to use the phono in's of my old 002 with the same camcorder without level issues? Anyway, I suppose I'll have to buy a dual RCA>TRS cable and go into the line in's of the Mbox, huh? |

Anyway, my Mbox is just serving it's purpose primarily as a Digi dongle. However, I am going to just double check the inputs using a turntable this time, just for the sake if it needs a warranty repair, or if I decide to sell it sometime down the road.

The 002 has no phono inputs; it has RCA inputs. An RCA is a type of connector; a phono input is a type of circuit. The 002 has RCA connectors on line inputs. The MBox 2 has RCA connectors on a phono input. That help? ![]() I love that stuff comes with phono inputs now. Long live rekkids!
