I dont think there is an AU>>RTAS software conversion program. But if there is, I am sure FXpansion makes it.

Can you run AU instruments in LIve, and run Live rewire into PT....maybe?

I know Apple Logic Pro/Express can run AU instruments from GB.

I am just shooting in the dark here!

Would a REALLY long way be to submix and bounce to disk a PT session and then open it up in GarageBand, cut my tracks with the GB instruments and then import just those GB instrument tracks into PT and line it all up? That should work theoretically right? A huge hassle but..........

Yes, that should work. Ensure that you render all audio from bar 1 to the end of the longest audio file.

Do this in both PT and GB and you should be fine.

BTW, which instruments are you going to be using?

I just got some new bundle of GB instruments from Boldt. And I'm interested in checking out one or more of the new Jam Packs, namely World Music and Symphonic.

There is one other way of getting AUs into Pro Tools.

Try Plogue's Bidule.

Peace.

Plogue Art et Technologie

Please elaborate - how do you set this up? Can Bidule capture the output of GB and Rewire it to Pro Tools? What about sync? GB instruments are not available as AUs to other applications.

No.
You can open Bidule in PT and record your Audio Unit Instruments.

Peace.

How are you opening Bidule in Pro Tools? Also, third party (non-Apple) AUs can be wrapped with a product like FXpansion's AU to RTAS wrapper (someone mentioned that above). That will work for PT. But, if anyone has figured out how to use the Apple plugs and instruments that ship with GB, Logic, and Soundtrack in non-Apple apps, please post that solution (besides export the printed track from GB, Logic, etc). Apple has that one locked down pretty tightly. With Pro Tools, DAE is the deal breaker for any of the audio capture/routing solutions like Soundflower.

There is no AU to RTAS wrapper. There is a VST to RTAS wrapper but no AU.

First, I read interpreted you message wrong.

I thought when you said GarageBand instruments that you simply meant AU instruments. You mean those wonderful little freebies inside of GarageBand.
I particularly like the drums myself.

I know of no program that can get them out of GarageBand.

As for Plogue Bidule, it is a crazy, amazing program. It can function like a wrapper, FX program and a sequencer. It is used as a wrapper with Pro Tools, I believe via Rewire.

Anyway, if you want more info, I can send you a nice piece that helps you set it up in Pro Tools. I just can't find the current web address to download it, so you'll have to email me.

Peace.
