Help with setting up home studio.

I have been researching for a long time now what to get for my home studio so i can start recording. (I will run Protools)

starting out with the computer:
I recently purchased a Dell laptop for college. I dont use it all that much. I understand that macs have a cleaner processor and are ideal for recording. I was looking into getting an Imac but figured i would just give my PC a shot first, before buying a new mac ( i will get an external hardDrv of course). I dont Plan on running any crazy extensive Sessions (not yet at least). How will my dell laptop do? or is this a bad idea?

INTERFACE:
MBOX2 or MBOX2 pro? i realize the pro is a step-up and has more i/o. I was also looking at the Digi002 and 003. I would probably go with the 002 becuase it is obviously cheaper now and not too much different than the 003. will i be in over my head with the 002? i have some experience with protools but am not very savvy with the newest interfaces. however, i was thinking that going with something a little better (002 or 003) would help learn more about them.

MICs:
I was thinking the AT4040. Good choice?

What is a good choice of monitors for the price ( i was thinking $300-$600)

Please be patient. i am just starting my studio at home for the first time.

What kind of music are doing?

Hip Hop/R-n-B- The Mbox2pro is the best way to go.
Rock/Other music where you need a lot of inputs.- Digi002r/003r

For monitors in that range, I would go Yamaha HS50M's. They can be found in some pro studios and are great for mixing.

For the mic it depends on what you'll be using it on vocal, guitar, etc.
