How to..create stuttering vocal effect in pro tools.

I know i can do this with a sampler, and by chopping up a word in pro tools. Can anyone offer any tips on ways they create the stuttering effect. What tools you use and how you go about creating it.

Thanks in advance!

For what you're looking for, GlitchVST is the most intuitive and easy robust plugin of its kind in any price range, and luckily for you, it's free as all hell:

Glitch VST by dblue

Otherwise, you can get tweaky about chopping and editing, but why do that when glitch can get the same results in a quarter of the time?

You might be able to use this, which is available in Mac VST/AU, although it is kind of hard to control:

2 ways i know both within pro tools, u dont need to buy anything...

set to grid mode, 16th or whatever u want the stutter to be, change the pencil tool to square. change the track view to volume and with the pencil tool draw on the volume

problem i've found with this is the vertical changes in volume can cause clicking

alternative way is side chain a gate on the track u want to stutter from a drum track thats playing the beat u want the stutter to be. u can create a track just for this and set the output to the bus which u send to the gates sidechain so u need never actually hear the beat ur using...

You can do the same thing with the mute automation too.

And one more way which is a bit longer.....With grid mode on and the grid value what you want it to be on, select "Separate region on grid" in the edit menu. Then delete every other slice after it's been separated. Again, this will take a little longer than the volume automation trick.

make sure tab to transient is off and just hit tab, that'll take u to the next region. actually, i dunno if that'll help cos u still gotta select the region, doing it this way does let u fade the regions to clear any clicking (if u notice it over the stutter)

This video should help in terms of using a sampler. Plus this guy is hilarious.
