Thread Starter | Using a flat panel lcd hd tv as a monitor. Can this be done? I'm thinking of purchasing one and wondering what issues there might be with using one instead of a computer monitor. What type of inputs would it need? Thanks! |

| I've gotten it to work (with VGA). I was curious about the differences as well, so when I got 32" LCD TV for the bedroom, I took a computer in there and gave it a test. The biggest difference I found is that your resolution choices are very few with an LCD TV vs. a LCD Monitor for a computer. Only the native resolution looked good (it is a widescreen LCD), and that just made everything look really big instead of offering me more realestate (and not as sharp). YMMV. I'd imagine it'd be excellent for games and the like where bigger is better, regardless of the lower resolution. Or as a second monitor for particular work and that can switch over to a TV just by touching a button. Despite those caveats ... my 22" widescreen computer monitor didn't seem quite as impressive as it once was .... and it was only about a week after I had gotten it that monitor . ![]() |

| You need an HDTV/Monitor that does 1080p and has a DVI or HDMI input. I've done a lot of research on the topic. Most run of the mill flat-screens will give you disapointing results. Check out the Westinghouse LVM-37W3 37 There's much written about it here. The image quality is just as good if not better than the 30" cinema display but bigger.

I have that same monitor. It takes a while to get used to something that size. If you're really considering it, you want to really evaluate your desk setup. If you're only 1' away from it, you'll spend half the day searching for your mouse cursor. | |
