Thread Starter | Firewir devices Don't work on WIndows XP - FIX Problems connecting Firewire devices to Windows XP machines (with SP2) are usually due to a Windows XP issue. Basically XP throttles back the bandwidth from 800 to 100. There is a patch to download, but then you have to go in and edit your registry (scary).Took me ages to get Echo Audiofire 8 to work and even longer to get Liquid Mix flying, because I downloaded the patch but didn't read enough of the bulletin to see the instructions to edit registry. Great support from Echo Audio and Focusrite, not so good from Cakewalk (but their forum is great for finding fixes). Here is the link to the fix... Performance of 1394 devices may decrease after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 I have now implemented this fix correctly on my machine and I can now work with very low latencies on the AF8. If you have XP/SP2 and Firewire devices, you really need this fix. |

| You know, oddly, I dont think I have ever had this problem, that I am aware of, anyway. I have XP pro on 3 computers, all using firewire audio interfaces, and drives in the case of two of the computers. I will try it out anyway, and see what happens. Also, my installs of XP Pro include SP2 to begin with, so I never needed to upgrade. -D

| Erm.....doesn't Service Pack 3 fix this automatically, even modifying the registry for you as part of it's install ? If I'm wrong about this, please let the forum know, as I'd imagine in a worst case scenario there's be lots of FW400 devices running at 100 speed because of it. Ray |

| Not sure if this clarifies things or not, as it refers only to FW800 (1394b)devices being slowed down to FW100 speed, and not to the FW400 (1394a) devices that many of us employ in an audio setting. Nevertheless, see: >> If you have hotfix 885222 applied on a Windows XP SP2-based computer, and then you upgrade to Windows XP SP3, an installed 1394b FireWire device reverts from S400 speed to S100 Ray |
