JBL LSR4328 Digital vs Analog Ins with Mac

Any comments from JBL4328/6 monitor users regarding analog vs digital inputs. I can use the digital outs on the Dual 2.3 Powermac (S/PDIF lightpipe -> CO2 -> S/PDIF Coax) or S/PDIF outs on an 828mkII or analog outs on the 828mkII to connect the speakers. Any upside or issues with any of these choices? How are the converters on the JBLs? Anyone clocking the Mac built-in audio to an external clock? . . . Thanks.
