Midi over ethernet in mac os 10.3.9

Hi guys,

I have Mix3 PT system running on a G4 mirrordoor and I have a spare G4 of the same spec...
I'd really like to be able to run some of the newer virtual instruments.
Now- most of these VIs want Mac OS 10.4 but I cant supply that and keep running my Mix rig so I figured can I use Midi over ethernet to trigger from PT on Mac 1 with 10.3.9 playing a stand alone VI on mac 2 on 10.4?

I've tried to research this but just cant get a straight answer to my 'older system' question!

MusicLab | Downloads | Trial Software

Only thing I can tell you is give it a shot. I tried it with a G4 Dual 1.42 and an Athlon 2200 PC and it worked great.

I haven't tried this product personally so I don't know if it works.
But:

http://www.kissbox.nl/products.pdf

This box claims to peer with a Mac running Tiger running the
Network MIDI Driver built into Audio MIDI Setup. So,
if you put a normal USB/MIDI interface on your Panther
machine, wired up DINs from that interface to the Kiss-Box,
and plug the Kiss-Box into the Ethernet, it should peer with
your Tiger machine. Definitely send email to the company
to see if it will work before you buy one.

However, if you're going to go this route, it's hard for me to
see what you gain over just running the DIN cables between
MIDI interfaces on the two computers ... cheaper and less to go wrong.

Yep- your last point was what was going through my mind as I read... how is that better than just using a midi interface.

Thanks for the ideas though...
