Sanity check with Pro Tools 7 (note chasing issue?)
So, the other day, I was at my client and he asked me to show him how to enter MIDI events in Pro Tools 7. He just got his studio together and doesn't have a MIDI controller yet (I know...), so I set up a MIDI track, routed it to BFD, turned on the grid and started drawing notes with the pencil.
Everything's going great until I change to the smart tool and try to select, move and copy the midi notes. I noticed that whenever I clicked a note in the middle of the pattern, the transport would show the bar|beat of the selected note, and then slowly "rewound" itself to 0|0|000. That was interesting, but what really baffled me was that sometimes, when I dragged a note to a new location vertically, I'd leave behind a trail of notes.
This is completely new to me because I'm still running 6.9 in my studio, so I was baffled. A look in the Reference guide taught me about "note chasing", so I'm wondering if that is the reason for the countdown when I selected notes in the middle of the region. But, more importantly, the "trail of notes" looks like a bug. Anyone out there familiar with this behaviour and can explain what's going on?
