Plextor premium dead! What else?

What else is a good quality burner available these days?

I see refurbs and used ones on eBay everyday. I've been stocking up on the 716/755/760 models.

Regards,
Bruce

Thanks Bruce,

I ordered one online. But why aren't there any good quality drives made? I expected more than 100 cds from a "premium" drive. Has the age and mentality of Wal-mart spread to every corner of the earth?

There are!.. but none have the ability to use PlexTools to integrate in the workflow as well as the Plextor Premium drives. That's why the Plextor premium drives were adapted in Mastering rooms around the world, because it included a convenient way for QC without having to take additional steps.
There are several burners available that I've used that offer low error rates. Sony, Yamaha and NEC

Bruce

PlexTools was actually a bonus. They were the first to offer hardware support for bit-perfect ripping and became the standard drive used by replication plants.

When the high-end Sony and Yamaha burners were discontinued, the Plextors were the only burners available offering comparable error counts. That combined with their almost universal use by the plants led to most mastering facilities using Plextor.

I've gotten hundreds of burns from a 760. Burners do have a finite life and I've had bad experiences with refurbs.
