I have both but I really don't consider them similar plugs

I use the Wave Arts track plug ALOT although I am not all that crazy for the compressor section of that plug, I think it is only good for VERY light compression. This is currently my number one channel plug. The gate is one of the best available only recently supplanted by the Sonalksis gate.

Wave Arts EQ's are smoother to operate than Waves - sound wise they are similar

I also use the Wave Arts Multi Band compressor on kick all the time and it is a good plug

Not a fan of the Wave Arts Reverb but I am also not a fan of Waves reverb with exception to their Ir1

I really like Wave Arts GUI's - far superior to Waves. The Wave Arts also tend to be very feature rich , more so than the waves.

THAT being said - I still use ALOT of Waves plugs as well

I know, GET BOTH

Oh yeah, Wave Arts = No WUP (look it up)

Despite their PITA copy protection, that fact is that Waves plugins are an incredible value that should be the first bundle you buy. They sound amazing and work well in almost every host.

The WUP is not required. I am still using V4 with no problems. If you look at the WUP in a less cynical way, it's a pretty cost effective way to make sure you always have the latest version. BEWARE - latest isn't always the greatest

The Wavearts Master Restoration is incredible if you have such a need.

In my opinion Waves + UAD2 would be all you really need, but you can add a few special things as needed.

I don't have either, but I've demo'ed the Wavearts and find it much more serious and flexible than the T-Racks. If my memory's still intact, the Wavearts had a very low CPU consumption while giving awesome sound. Many industry magazines did say that, compared to Waves, the Wavearts offer the same quality - if not more - than Waves.

yawn.....did you really register just to post this? maybe your time would have been better spent doing some research.

For example, for the Ren pack, I think I've WUPed it twice...sum total of about £55 quid...in 7-8 years?

What a rental fee.

Idiot.

Wow - I've WUP'ed mine every year in five years. That makes me an idiot too. Especially because my Gold Bundle is totally outdates and will never get updated sonically (only for compatibility). I have paied for it twice and don't find use for it anymore. Maybe I should not pay next time my WUP runs out.

+1 on WaveArts TrackPlug 5. It's the only plugin I'll put on every channel of multi-track drums. I'm an outboard junkie but TrackPlug is very CPU efficient, sounds excellent, extremely powerful and flexible. I have a few other WaveArts plugs but TrackPlug gets the most mileage.

Sonalksis gate looks pretty strong too, that might be my next plug in!

I used Waves back in the 16 bit days because they were the best at the time. Like a lot of people, I got frustrated with their upgrade policy and haven't missed them since.

Well, I'm not saying anything idiot-wise...if you WUped it because you needed to, then obviously you had to do that. If you WUPed it just because it ran out....then I guess you didn't need to do that!

It just riles me that a certain section of Waves-haters tend to bash the WUP without actually having a clue as to what it entails. I'd rather get free updates to everything too, but I'd also like plugin companies to stay in business, and for that I'm prepared to pay upgrade fees, if they're dressed in WUP clothing or not (I just had to pay for the latest version of Autotune too...and paying for the WUP gave me a new plugin on the SSL bundle, so you get features too sometimes, it's not just maintenance).
