IRQ's what is the deal

Hey here is a question. I have a dual core Athlon Platnium
1 G cache - 4G sdram. I use Sonar Producer 6 . I have DM 3200 Tascam digital mixer. I am getting 50 to 85% loads on processor and 15 to 50% load on disk with just only 24 tracks. I shouldn't be having processor loads like this with system, was told by some , get Raptor (10,000rpm hard drive) to fix disk load. Should I be getting that much load on processor? I have been told to check IRQ's.
Any thoughts?

50% load on disk = replace or faster disk??

seems like the CPU is where you should focus!! too many pluggs?? (freeze tracks) background services ? shut'mm down!!

A few things to consider..

As you increase sample rate the size of the audio will increase dramatically and be harder on your hd. Also, plugins will run much higher cpu on tracks with higher samplerate.

For example 192k = x2 size of 96k.. and plugins can take up to x2 cpu as well. I wouldnt go above 96k.

Also, be sure you know how to use effects and do not have a reverb in several tracks.. you want to use buses and fx sends to share one or two reverbs across many tracks.

1 gig cache???? what amd chip is that ?

is the system setting your disks to the correct speed? (you can check that in control-panel/system/hardware/device manager)

you dont need a 10000rpm drive to deliver more than 24 tracks, but as the guy says you dont spec what bit/sample rate the tracks are

Hey thanks guys - tried to reset sample rate to higher rate. The new firewire card that has been just released for Tascam DM 3200 digital mixer won't let me reset to higher rate. It defaults to 44.1 24bit.

How do I reset IRQ's - If I gave IRQ layout here could someone help me with this. As I think too many things using same IRQ's.
