Thread Starter | Cymbals "choke" (and fake sounding drums) Hi, I'm currently recording some songs with my (hardcore metal) band using my computer. I've tracked the drums as MIDI and i've imported them into Cubase, and i'm using Reason in ReWire mode to get all the drum sounds. (I'm using the NNXT and not ReDrum because i like using the standard drum map) However, the samples (especially noticible on cymbals and toms) seem to choke or end unnaturally. The only controls on the NNXT i can find to edit this is on the Amp Envolope section, and i've set Hold, Decay, Sustain and Release on full. The work around i'm using at the moment is taking the cymbal sound in cubase and dragging it to be 2/3 bars long but that is time consuming, and means that editing the drums can get a bit confusing. So is there either a midi function in cubase to make all the notes a specific length (so i can go back to the drum map view in cubase) or a parameter in reason to change to just trigger the sound, rather then starting and stopping? Or do i have to drag every note to length |

| I would suggest to record real cymbals instead of messing around with MIDI editing. It will sound more natural and will be a lot faster.

Afaik, in reason, you have to drag every note length. It's not that bad, tho. Just zoom way out in edit mode while looking at your midi drums,so that you see the whole song's drums, and choose the note(s) with your cymbals/toms on it, highlight them all, and drag to the appropriate length. This is why I prefer redrum: you can make it so certain hits ring out entireley every time they're triggered, and others only as long as you trigger the note. or you could just use battery or kontakt in cubase with a GM map, have way better sounding drums, and way more control over each hit. You already have the midi parts, so all you'd have to do is load em up with your sounds and you're there | |

| IMO that's why ReDrum is the easier option. You can get a drum map view by clicking the icon that looks like a snare/sticks. Then you don't have to worry about patterns or whatever else is stopping you from using ReDrum. The default ReDrum settings won't cut the samples short, so if your samples don't choke, ReDrum won't choke. If you stick with NNXT for drums then zooming out and selecting the whole row is probably easiest. |

| the problem could be the polyphony on the sampler...that is what controls how many notes can play at a time. if its too low your sounds would cut off possibly like you're experiencing. |
