| Waves SSL and V-Series For those of you who tried both. What is the practical and characteristic difference between the two? And which one do you prefer? Thank you for opinions, /R |

| Hello Fellow Swedish House slut: Get both! Tony Belmont here on GS got (or at least had) great deals on both packages. If I had to choose one, I'd choose the SSL mainly because of the Channelstrip. Great, hardhitting EQ and great Dynamics. The Stereo Comp is great for.....everything. Hardly ever use the G-Channel. Haven't had that much time with the V-Neve. At the moment I prefer the Comp over the EQ. But the Low mids are great, everything just pops out, as do the SSL CS. /Jens |

| They're obviously different, for sure. SSL sounds punchy, while V-S sounds fat. I can only tell you that they sounds really good. I can mix with just both collection and they compensate each other quite nicely. Of course, more flavours are welcomed, but they're pretty much covered what I want. I'm happy to have both, cause I rarely deal with analog gear and I did a lot of ITB thing. However, V-S can be disturbing when the source track has been captured nicely, SSL will be better for clean boost/cut. If you're curious, buy an ilok if you don't already have, and download them to give a shot for 7 days demo. ![]() |

I just did an entire album and i ended up with using mostly the Wave Stuff on everything, because they are so easy and fast. The only thing that i miss is a clean EQ like the Cambridge from UAD. When Waves or any other company is doing like that than i sell my both fully loaded UADs. greetings from Berlin.....

| I have the waves ssl, and pretty much thought that they were the best eqs going, (along w the massenburg). URS and digiIII are pretty good too, also like the equim doodad, but the ssl and massenburg were the kings in my book, but different, massenburg being more clinical. now I just got the the v-series, and though different, and while I still really like the ssl eqs, I believe that the v-series might just be the best software eq I have heard, bar none. again they are different like someone said the ssl is punchy and has a nice cut, but the v-series is character, and has a real analog vibe going. It works on acoustic guitars, which in my book is the highest possible compliment, sense almost no software eqs cut it for that task. I got waves to extend my demo period and in the email the waves guy told me to push that outbut on the v4 eq and check out the added harmonics, he wasn't kidding. Waves really hit a home run w these plugs IMHO again the compressors in each bundle are different but compliment each other. there are other good comps, sony, UAD la2a, UAD 1176, digiIII, massey. haven't used the desser in the v-series yet. then there is the ssl channelstrip, what a great gate on that puppy probably the best software gate I've heard (sony is good too, but I think the ssl beats it, though I haven't really a/b'd them) regardless of what one thinks of waves, they are building some good software ![]() O, I am sorry, the most important thing, they look cool ;>)

Strange, I hoped that they use the Neve-ish GUI and I thought the new yellowish V-S was ugly... Perhaps there's something to do with the licensing. ![]()

| Ok, continuing this post, becuase now I bought the Waves SSL and have the V-series installed as demo. I am very impressed with both, however, it would be interesting to hear how you use the 2 plug-in sets differently. For those of you who own both, what could be a typical use for these plugs within one song? Also, do you often run the SSL Master comp on individual channels rather than busses/output? Or is there a specific reason not to do so maybe? |
