ok.. i was an idiot far too long.. trying to run a dual processor macbook with 512MB RAM.. i knew i was starving it.. i knew all i had to do was spend $100 on 2GB to make this thing sing.... and yet, i delayed.. i waited.. i paid bills on time... etc etc.. well... like william blake sez.. a fool who PERSISTS in his folly eventually becomes wise... and now garageband, ableton live 6, & logic express all fly and i can get back to making music without dropouts and bullshit... run it all out of ram, who cares if the internal drive is slow? the moral? dont be cheap like me!! max out your RAM, ppl.

Getting 2gb from either 512mb or 1gb is the best thing you can do for almost any computer doing anything other than email and web browsing!

yeah.. i'm just recording 2 trax at a time with ableton live, really.. havent tried recording any big multitrack stuff yet.. no 13 mics on a drumkit or anything like that... but playback of 34 or so tracks is no problem at all... with 2GB you can run it all out of RAM if the internal drive chokes... i planned on dropping a 7200rpm hitachi drive in the macbook but i havent had to yet... which is kind of surprising, actually... |

when I got my macbook (core duo, 2ghz) I ordered the RAM on the same day I ordered the macbook. they showed up at the same time, I didn't even run it with the 512mb. and good frickin' thing. the macbook is just about as fast as my G5 dual 2.3GHz. verrrrrry impressive indeed... |
