New version of Powertracks audio/midi multitrack ..version 12 is out. heads up.

a heads up....
i notice on the pg music site they have a new version 12 up of one of my favorite software
multitrack products.
just some of the new features..
(pgmusic.com for more detailed info/demo/user references etc etc.)
1. it will detail chords in imported audio CD/wma n mp3 files.
(how they are doing this i have no idea. but interesting.)
2. real studio recordings of drums. to use as a basis for songwriting n played by real top studio drummers.
so u can instantly create audio drum tracks in lots of styles rok/country/jazz etc.
3. a new feature is "fractional" floating point tempos.
to make it easier to sync midi traks to prerecorded audio traks.
4. ability to remix/rearrange mp3's .
5. enhanced midi notation n audio editing.
6. split notes from a midi drum trak to individual traks.
6. support for tranzport wireless daw controller.
and many other new features.

there are a lot of interesting features i dont have time to go into...
and a very active large community of users on the pg user forums.
if anyone has detailed questions..or just try the demo.
i notice the price is unchanged at 49 buks. imho an amazeing value
for a midi and audio sequencer , and no dongles to worry about.
for example if you have the I/O AND COMPUTER POWER (very important)..
there are no limitations on how many audio traks u can record at one time.
(up to 48.) supports dx/vst/vsti etc etc. just a zillion features.

I'd suspected the next version would bring the 'real drums' thing over from Band in a Box. Outside of that, I don't know if there are enough changes to warrant an upgrade...but at $29, maybe I will anyway.

erosconpollo....
what i normally do is upgrade every two versions n skip a version n pay the 29 buks. a sweet deal if u ask me compared to some companies large upgrade charges.
thats why ive stayed loyal.
yep..like you i was expecting the real drums to come on into powertracks
in this version from biab.
which saves someone buying live drum sample packs etc. for realistic drum tracks.
are u aware of the trick by the way to get 96 audio tracks outta powertracks ??
(assuming u have the computer power of course.)
in case your not aware. you set each of the 48 tracks to stereo...
and then record two instruments/vocs/whatever per track.
just thought i'd mention it in case.

I may just be a dumb Wookie, but there seems to be a bit of contradiction going on in that sentence (or actually, those sentences).

The every-other-upgrade has pretty much been my pattern too, since way, way back when Powertracks was midi only. But I've let my BiaB upgrades lag (don't really use it much anymore), so I'm not sure which I'll choose this time around. I do know I'd rather upgrade my PG products (and give 'em their exceptionally reasonable asking price) than spend $150 to upgrade my older version of Audition!

And yep, I know the 48 stereo tracks = 96 tracks thing. Never needed to do it though!

erosconpollo ..
what do you use on the midi side with powertracks ??
external modules or softsynths ??
ok so u know the 96 trik.
ive been trying out the TC helicon built in, kinda neat stuff with it.
creating backup vocs for example.lol.
i love the pg echo chorus on vocs....cos unlike some plug ins..
its not a cpu hog.
i became a user in version 8. seems so long ago now.lol.
i agree i would sooner give the measly upgrade charge to pg.

It's not a contradiction -- it's a qualification.

If he'd said, "There are no limits; you can do up to 48 tracks," -- now that would be a contradiction.

Not as long ago as Version 3! When I began fooling with this stuff in the mid-90s, I was in a music ministry and just doing midi arrangements that could be played by the church's Kurzweil. I still have the low-endish Roland SC7 module I started out with then but mostly use the soft synths now (mostly of the free variety!).

I've always liked the notation-based composition in Power Tracks. Piano rolls never made much sense to me! That's the primary reason I stuck with the program...of course, once audio was added, that was another selling point.

erosconpollo....
holy moly version 3.
HA!....so u know it inside out. kudos to you.
i try n tell people its all one needs to do a song....
but some feel ,( i guess its the comfort factor)...they need to spend thousands more on all manner of products.
you are correct sir....the midi is very strong in the product.
ive always found the bars view very usefull for moving around chunks of midi data quickly. eg.....u got a good first chorus n wanna use it later on down the line sorta thing. imho the audio effects plug ins are a hidden gem considering what some people spend on plug ins.
the pg plug ins also work great in the other product i like ....reaper.

by the way do u use the forte" product in powertracks ??
very interesting product for such low buks.

Nope, haven't tried the Coyote DXi. Heard that it's decent but I have no great need for it right now.

Well you have me beat for sure...I have used PT off and on since 3.5 / BIAB7 days. I will have to check this version out (tho I still love CEP2.1). Thanks for the heads up!

hi jay......
hows things ??
hope all is well with you.
what have u been up to ??
albums coming along nicely.
but lots of work we still have to do.
but the main songs are nearly done.

smurf....
wow...long time user eh ??
yes i agree CEP is a good product , particularly if one is deep in
signal analysis.
i'm sure it also finds a home in many forensic applications etc.
i needed the midi features of powertracks of course.
all the best.

9/5.....yeh know that feeling.
been there done that, ate the spaghetti...lol.

yep this album is rough/heavy work..believe me.
cos many of the songs demand certain sound pictures.
but we are just doing the best we can.
intensive work.
i can tell you one thing....some of the songs are very retro,
and we are haveing lotsa fun.
and some songs are comedic. others are very heavy rok.
a vast mixture of song styles for interest.

i'm sure there will be slaggers...no matter what we do.
mais c'est la vie...lol.

is powertracks working ok for you..??
running like a champ on the new dual core i got.
(as is reaper..no crashes from either....just so SMOOTH....
fast project loads in the blink of an eye nearly.
glad i went with this pc. projects have gone from 70 per cent load
way down to like 20 per cent. thus v happy.
will do me till 50 cores arrive.lol.)
