your file format of choice (wav, aiff) and do you convert?

Just wondering what people here use, wav, aiff and if you noticed a difference ever between the 2. Also wondering if you use aiff and get a project in wav do you convert it to aiff?

In pro tools I use aiff. No particular reason really. I personally don't notice a difference.

In dp I'm obviously stuck with sound designer II files when I use it. I'm pretty sure it always converts whatever you are bringing in.

AIFF is the most compatible format on Mac. Despite popular belief there's a small difference between in usage in AIFF and WAV on Mac, as only AIFF can be used for some system purposes.

Other than that the two are identical in sound, as are SDII files. SDII is not a very handy format as it is not very compatible. A particular bug in Logic Pro can be avoided by switching to SDII format though (the "file already exists" bug when bouncing a file with dithering).

WAV files are probably your best bet in terms of compatibility, and you can embed time information in WAV files.

Due to the bit order, on PowerPC Macs there is a minimal performance difference (approx. 0,7%) in the favour of AIFF. Intel Macs there should be no difference at all (haven't tested this).

I personally use interleaved as it is easier and takes up less space than split L/R. There is no reason to convert WAV to AIFF for internal use, but externally it could be a good idea to convert from AIFF to WAV.
