Power Outage! Now Songs Wont Load!

Hello, I have a serious problem.

I left my computer running, came back and the power had gone out. I dont have a battery backup. I run Cubase Sx3. Now the songs will not load, and cubase says it doesnt recognize the song file format. Also i cannot Import the wave files to reconstruct my songs. It wont recognize those either. I tried reloading the software, but it says the same thing.

Does anyone have an idea how to remedy this problem? I would hate to have lost all my work....again.

My system is just Windows Xp and Cubase Sx3.

Any help would be much appreciated...i figure im screwed..

Thanks

Todd

maybe your drive is "damaged" or not sorted correctly.

try this.

go to START => run ==> type in: CMD

black box appears..

type chkdsk -f

windows will try to recover lost blocks from your harddisk.

you cant load any song? you cant load something into cubase (like a single track?).

cheers

this has happened a few times for me on sx3. i've resorted to using "Save as..." every time i save and naming each file something like "song-2007042801", "song-2007042802" etc, this way if one gets corrupt i can go back a revision. have never had it corrupt audio however...

That really pisses me off about Cubase. Session files are so small - why can't it just do file backups like protools and save them under sequential names in a separate folder. I can't tell you how many times I've had session files come back corrupted for no apparent reason at all . The save as thing is the only work=around, and god help me if I forget. Stupid, stupid, stupid. If your audio files are corrupt in addition to your session files, you may be in for some trouble - since audio files are so big, they generally span multiple sectors on a hard drive, and if the file's header info (or the drive's MBR) gets corrupted, checksum errors result. all the data is probably still there, but the drive may not be able to put all the pieces of the files together without some outside influence. (I'm no CE, but that's my understanding of it) I've got an app somewhere that allows you to view and open scraps of audio files on a damaged disk - I'll see if I can dig it up - you lose timecode, so if you have an edit-heavy session, you can't spot, but it's baled me out a few times.

Hey everyone, I actually have many hard disks with cubase songs and wav file folders of course.

Everything was working perfectly on all songs before the power outage.

The computer works, the hard drives work, i reloaded the program as well.

It is probably as mentioned, some hard drive corruption (header info / MBR)..i wouldnt think all the separate hard drives are corrputed though..ALL??

I will try check disk..

What i was saying about the audio files, is... Usually if a song file was corrupted or anything, you can just import the wave files to a new template and everything is good.

Cubase will not even import the audio files. It says they are not recognized.. not even one, from any disk...

Hopefully something will work..!

At least i can still play new music...lol

Thanks

could be something on your system drive causing it... most mac problems, i find, are caused by disk wierdness... so that's where i always start... run applejack.. rule out a disk problem first then see what's next

it also fixes things like bad preferences and permissions.. it's free, takes a few mins to run, and requires very little thought.

oh, wait.. yer on XP... who knows then..

I have seen this exact problem a few times before, never with Cubase, but it happened to me once when I was recording on location with Pro Tools.

I found that none of the audio files were recognised after the power cut as PT said they weren't supported file types - I was recording as AIFF at the time.

I found that the file resources had become corrupt and when I reset them the files were fine.

This was on a Mac, and a long time ago, but I guess its worth looking into to save your song.
