CD Burner ok in a side-mount racked Mac?

Companies making isolation racks contend there is no problem with laying your computer on it's side in one of their fan cooled racks.

Todd Beeten, president of Sound Construction & Supply, makers of Isobox, has this to say:

"Thanks for asking. There are two schools of thought. One is Apples
official position that you should never turn the case sideways, and the
other is the hundreds of users who have turned the box sideways for more
room in their racks and who report NO operating issues. Please research some
chat rooms and make your own decision. Apple used one of our rigs at Sundance
and reported no issues. Thanks again, Todd"

I'm curious how your real world Mac Pros or G5s are functioning laid on it's side in an isolation rack? Are you able to burn CD's or PMCD's without problem?

I have a G4 Quicksilver that has been on 24/7 as a server for the last 12-18 months with no problems, burn disc's on it sometimes too, and no probs there either (tuff little bugger).

G5's do get very hot though, not sure if lying them on their sides affects the air in take.

Thanks, William. I don't think heat is an issue. There are no vents on the sides.

I do a bit of mastering and I have to be able to burn decent PMCD discs from my computer.

I'm getting pretty serious about the Isobox. Not sure which model yet, but they look good.
