Question Recording Roland Electronic Drums - master out or midi?

I was wondering from all of you that have electronic drum sets, how do you record them best using the direct/master out. I notice that they sound better if I turn the gain almost all the way down (or 1/4) and the master at 3/4 up on my Roland TD-12 I just purchased. I'm using the master out since I don't get signal from the direct out.

I'm also thinking about using the set to trigger midi and use Drum Kit from Hell Superior or Battery 3. What are my fellow dirty slutz doing to get the best sound of an electronic set?

I've got a td6, so the sounds probably aren't as good as the ones on your kit. I only use the internal sounds for practising with.

I bought BFD and DFHS. They are WAY better than the internal sounds.

If I had to recommend ONE piece of software then I'd buy DFHS CV http://www.toontrack.com/custom_vintage.asp. The sounds are great and it integrates with v-drums (especially the hihat) much better than BFD (sorry fxpansion, but you know it's true !)

Try it, you won't be dissapointed.

Cool, it is a tough call between using midi or the direct sound from the module. I am a little impressed by the sounds on the TD-12 however I need more . I need to try it with Battery 3 (the pop kit its comparable to a kit on DFHS) or I'm going to have to switch to DFHS when I upgrade my computer and buy a hard drive with a terabyte in memory so I can fit all the samples
