Firepod vs Firestudio vs Focusrite Saffire 26i/o

I own a Firepod, the Firestudio's predecessor, and i have been dealing with the dilemma of whether to stick with what I have or upgrade to the Firestudio. However, I would rather buy a second Firepod and add 8 more tracks to my interface while still paying less than I would for a Firestudio. The only thing attractive about the Firestudio is Worldclock, DSP Monitor/Mixing, and the new jitterpll.

I have heard a lot of criticism about the mic pres in the Firestudio. I really like the mic pres in my Firepod so I wonder if the pres in the Firestudio are different. Has anyone made a thorough comparison between the Firepod and Firestudio? Specifically, has anyone compared the mic pres?

What about the mice pres on the Focusrite Saffire 26? Has anyone compared either the Firestudio's or Firepod's mic pres to those on the Focusrite Saffire 26?

I really don't think you'll be let down by the Firestudio pres when compared to the Firepod. I've been listening to what I've tracked so far through some Proac D80's and they'll happily show up any issues.

The FS sounds clean and smooth. No noise issues at all.

I haven't tried syncing two Firepods, and I don't know how much you need the extra channels/budget etc, but I wouldn't be worried about the FS pres.

Good luck

I would not waste money upgrading from one budget device to the next. Really in perspective, as someone whose owned all over the budget spectrum
(Behringer, Yamaha, Mackie Onyx, EMU, M-Audio, I've also used the firepod extensiveley) the differences aren't that big. Yes their are slight noticable difference, but when comparing it too having one professional preamp, their are no differences between an Onyx and a Yamaha MG mixer preamp. In your case the main reason to go firestudio, I would think do you want the Digital I/O for a possible upgrade path to higher convertors, and monitoring control. Otherwise stick with the firepod. and Put the 200$ saved else where.

Also the focusrite Sapphire pre's are derivitives of the Green pre's used currently on the twin track pro, Voice master Pro, and Octopre. I do not think the circiut is the same but very similiar. I've heard of some driver issues with this, so I'd be wary there, especially for windows users.
