serious garageband help needed

Hey guys... I just got an artists computer in the mail. He couldn't figure out how to bounce files, consolidate audio and midi etc. So now I have all his garageband files...

I have to get these mixes started, and I can't figure out what the hell is going on with this software.

1)I need to consolidate all the files to 0 starting point
2) I need to bounce the midi files/instruments to audio files
3) I need the original midi files as well.

Can anyone offer me some help? Thanks

He mailed you his computer? LOL!

OK. What you want to do is basically solo each channel (disable FX if need be), set up the loop markers from the start to end of the track, then select the export to itunes function. Do this for all the files and you should have everything you need. Exporting MIDI tracks will render them as audio.

Also, afaik GB will only export to 44/16.

Hope that helps.

thanks for the quick reply dude

that sucks that it only exports as 16/44

Is there a disable all effects command/button?
Do i have to export each track individually or can i do them all at once?

Control+click on one of the files in iTunes and select "Show in Finder". Then you'll know where they are.

I tried exporting to itunes. I also tried locking the files to freeze them.

Still no luck, even doing one at a time...

It keeps bouncing a file that is the name of the song, and it doesn't play... There has got to be a different way. Or is garageband just not gonna let me do this?

The way I described before is the only way unfortunately.

In regards to where the files are, the will be saved to wherever your iTunes music folder is set to. Check your iTunes preferences and see where its set to save.

Also, when you export the files one by one, it will name it whatever the project is named and then tack on a number (or some sort of numerical naming system) on the end of it for the dif parts your doing. eg: "This is a number one single 1" "This is a number one single 2" etc etc.

You cant batch export unfortunately, and I dont think you can turn all effects off at once either.

Locking the regions is NOT freezing them.

Good luck.

If you have Logic Express or Logic Pro, you can load the Garageband songs directly from those programs. From there it's simple.

okay, so i got logic express, and i am trying to export these files.

Logic calls things by weird names...

I used the consildate function and it didn't consolidate the tracks... It just exported each region to another file... Why can't I get these to consolidate to 0 starting point. This is aggrevating... I am reading the manual in the meantime, but maybe someone can lend me some advice
