RME Fireface 800/400 not pinging external effects

Anybody notice that RME drivers cannot measure the pinged delay of external effects.
This is a problem with the Fireface 800 and 400. This problem is in Cubase 4 and Tracktion 2. I imagine it would have a problem with all computer DAW's.
Anybody pinging external effects with RME with success?

No, it is not. Steinberg's developers overlooked that negative delay
values are possible. These get reset to zero instead of calculated
correctly. Steinberg is aware of the problem.

RME

I suppose Tracktion 2 has the same problem?
I don't understand negative delay values.
Any other DAW's out there that have a similar problem with RME products.

Ive found that if I use some converters with my Multiface ADAT ports external fx then calculates the latency correctly.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding what you mean RedRoom. Are you saying that your external effects do not have digital I/O?
It must be that Cubase 4 and Nuendo are the only DAW's that ping external effects. Just not with RME products.

If I go out of the RME Multiface DA into some analogue outboard and back into the RME Multiface AD the ping will report 0.00.

However if I go out of the RME Multiface DA into some analogue outboard and come back in via my ADI8 - AD ping works.

Any theories on why that would make sense.
I can't ping external gear by analog or digital connections. The ping is happening (I see the lights of the external gear), but measurement is not happening.

I have no idea why it works this way but it does thankfully as I like to use my Revox B77mkII as an external fx.

Tomorrow will be the 2 year anniversary of this post. No solution from Steinberg or RME. Still using the Fireface 800 and Cubase 4.52. Still no ability to ping external effects correctly.

So if I use my TCM3000, Cubase 4.5.2 WILL NOT PING properly through the FF800??

Ok not sure this gonna help but better than nothing right ...

I'm working with Live 8 and got super frustrated that the automatic delay compensations did not move the recorded audio to it's right place but I had to do it manually every time ...

Then I figured out that if I monitor thru Live there will be latency ... but if I do not monitor with live but with totalmix the latency is adjusted correctly.

my 2c and happy anniversary !

Not sure if what I have to add is constructive or not since I do not use Logic- I did think you said other daws though?.. I use Sonar 8.5.3 w/an RME Multiface II and I use external inserts with it every mix - I send the ping and get consistent results/times everytime and seems to be rock solid - Loopback test, parallel compression, etc

RME are very good...although they will be quick to look for others to point the finger at..even though a lot of times they are right.. you have to stay on them and hold them accountable if it is theyre issue ..

I thought this thread deserved a bump. I've got a FF800 and the same applies here, that always bothered me. Currently I have to use the delay panning thing or nudge the tracks manually to get it to be on time. It's beyond me why this isn't fixed yet, let alone why they didn't fix this up in the first place.

What confuses me further is that for some reason it seems like my FX processor is being calculated when I hit the 'measure effect's delay' button, but when I send something to my compressor it doesn't seem to calculate it at all

Just a bump to see if anyone has found a solution for the pinging?

Also, since updating to Cubase 6, my playback signal is louder that my record level, when using direct monitoring. (FF800, Win7). Strange stuff....
