External Compressors with Cubase 4

This may be a stupid question, but i have never tried this out.. because i work on a external board:-) But here goe's...

I have a Motu 24io and my question is: Can i use external compressors connected directly to my motu's ins and outs?? and insert this on say my vocal track???..

If so, how?

Thanx a lot people:-)

Yes this is very easy to if you go to Studio Connections, select external effects. It is here you can set up to use any external fx/outboard. Then whenever you want to select a external fx/outboard it will appear with your plug-ins.

Ok.. So its the same as you do with external reverbs and FX..?!

Say if i want the bassdrum to use the same comp as the bassguitar, i just ad the same external effect on both the channels?

Thanx a million for anwering, i normaly like to play around with cubase myself, but i'm at work, and no cubase around:-(

In SX/Nuendo3 you can only use an inserted external effects on one track because Nuendo won't double assign the I/O. If it's still this way in C4 the best way to do this is insert the external effects track into a group or effects track and use the sends on your bass and kick channels.

With compression, best to insert an external effect into a group track and route (rather than use sends) your tracks to that group. That will send the whole signal.
If you're going to use parallel compression, then you use sends to external effects. In that case you would want to ping the external effect to make sure things do not get out of phase.

Shouldn't be, just make sure you ping your external effects.
