DVD+R's, DVD-R's, and Apple

Anyone care to explain the difference between DVD-R's and DVD+R's and how they relate to apple computers/intell's? Do any apple's write or read to DVD+R's? Are there drives that read both?

Sorry if this seems so basic.

I tried reading one on 5 different apple computers tonight with no such luck.

I think they have a different structure - so read/write is different.

With real Macs (PPC) well, the old superdrives did only support DVD-R, the last years they supported both but iDVD e.g. wants DVD-R and the new fake Macs (Intellimacs) - well, do not know - the one I have access to only destroyed two DVD+Rs and I do not know why ....

how did Max/MSP state - "external is mach-o but wrong architecture" - in Intel in a Mac - definitely ..... :-)

DVD+ uses ADIP whereas DVD- uses LPP.

The DVD-R is an older standard, although using the word "standard" to describe recordable DVDs is kind of a misnomer.

Consumers have had to struggle with this for a while now, although most DVD writers sold today should be able to deal with either one.

The biggest difference is apparently about the speed control system:
