Macbook Pro college student discount

In the Apple Education Store it seems I can save $400 (!!!) on a MB Pro. Is there some sort of catch?

No catch. And now you can get the brand name Ramen instead of the blue bag. Apple's swell.

I just checked the local university's deal. It's $200 off any MB pro. Where are you getting the $400 number from?

Ya mine were always about 200 off. I remember once a friend got like 300-400 off but it was kind of an older blowout model Powerbook. She got it for 1600 w/ Applecare instead of 2000 without! From the local store.

I think there might be a spring break deal?

I go to the Apple shop and configure a Macbook Pro 17inch 2.33 GHz with the upgraded Ram, upgraded harddrive, and Applecare program. Comes out to $3823

If I do the same config in the Education Store its $3445. $378 savings

Ahh. That's why. It's a $4k laptop. Without applecare and the upgrades it's $200. I'm thinking about dropping $1600 on a core2 15". $4k. Yikes. I'd rather get a mac pro($2199) and a 15" MB pro($1599) for that price.

Haha, I doubt I'll be buying one soon. I lustily configure my dream mac(s) and hover my mouse above the "buy" option every now and then... It will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.

Good, because that configuration wouldn't be the one I'd suggest anyway, even if you have all the money in the world to spend. You would be paying extra for 40GB more of hard drive, but it's a MUCH SLOWER drive (4200rpm), which you would never want. Also, the 17" is just too big for a laptop. I've got plenty of screen real estate when I'm on the go with my 15.4", and the portability difference between it and the larger model is huge. But if you DO get around to getting it, and you DO have all the money in the world, maxing out the RAM is always a good idea.

Lust on, my friend, lust on.

I must admit to adding all the options to a Mac Pro once (ok a couple of times). 16 gig of ram and 3 terabytes of HD space anybody?
