| Widescreen Monitors Vs. Standard
I have right now two square 17" CRT monitors on my protools rig. It's time to upgrade to LCDs and I'm wondering what everyones thoughts are in terms of display aspect ratio. I think I'm going to go with 2 19" Widescreen LCDs.
In protools at least the mixer window is not terribly tall and on my existing 1280x1024 resolution I have a bit of wasted vertical space on the screen I use for the mixer. I think that stepping the vertical resolution down to 900 pixels (the standard for a 19" LCD) I will waste less vertical space but at the same time the width goes all the way to 1440. This should allow me a few more full width channels on the screen at any one time. Also I benefit I think.
The inverse i suppose is true for the editing window. I will gain more horizontal space to see the current tracks in terms of time but less tracks over all on the screen vertically. For me though I think that this is OK as when editing I'm typically focusing on just one or two tracks at a time anyway.
Good, fast, bright LCDs can be had both wide and standard for around $180-$200USD so the price is really a non-issue here. What does everyone else use? What do you like or dislike about your current setup? Maybe the key is one of each?
Thank You
Robert
