melodyne vst

Can Melodyne VST be used for live pitch correction?
Does it match up well against Autotune for that purpose?
Does it cause any latency?
Thanks.

I believe all versions of Melodyne require that you transfer all the audio to it's engine before any pitch-correction is done. Therefore, it would be impossible to use it live.

This would separate Autotune from Melodyne, since Autotune can be used in realtime (automatically). I also understand that neither pitch correction program is better or more natural than the other--just a matter of taste.

I have used the Melodyne plugin a bit.. and I dont see anyway to do realtime pitching. It has to be tracked in first then correction after that.

i don't think he understood the post.

else... enlighten us. you tune the vocal by adding samples?

alex is right. audio must be "recorded" into the melodyne plugin, and then it can be corrected and previewed back in the session. it isn't AUTO-tune.

and you're right, feyshay, that is a distinction between the two. as far as artifacts, and which one sound more natural: it depends on the user, honestly. i've heard artifacts in both, and i've heard PROPERLY tuned vocals without any artifacts from both. you will not get that using auto-mode.

just try them for yourself. always the best course of action.

I compared both the plugin and the standalone version and I prefer the standalone version as you can resize the window as big as you want. Also, the plugin crashed 3 times in Cubase SX within 2 hours.

Just to clarify, it is possible to resize the window of the plugin (in one of the settings options) which is really nice. I use melodyne vst in cubase 4.02 and its pretty stable - a few bugs that are being worked out (see the celemony melodyne forum where I've posted)

The deal-breaker for me with the plugin is that when you alt-grab a blob of audio, it doesn't sound the pitch like in the stand-alone version. Crucial.

I'm not at my comptuer right now, but I believe there was a custom setting. I set mine to 1500x1000 or something like that.
