PSP Neon plug-in delay compensation problem in DP

This plugin seems to be all over the place with latency issues. I can't tell if DP is overcompensating or not compensating enough, but Neon definitely is not reporting the correct latency to DP. dfegad

Is there a trick to getting this thing to work properly in DP?

This happens with or without Linear Phase on.

I purchased the PSP total pack recently and I have just gotten around to trying this plug. Totally unusable except for master fader right now. Very disappointed to say the least. dfegad

You've got 2 options.

Either in the Neon prefs set the latency to fixed intead of variable, this way the latency is always at the max setting, the same as when all bands are set to on.

Or use variable, but then whenever you switch on a band you also have to drag Neon to another insert (and back if you please), in order for DP to see the correct latency value.

For the first option, after you have changed the setting, you still have to drag Neon to another insert once, because DP still has to see the correct latency or you could reboot the session, this is maybe more handy if you use a couple of Neon plugs.

I have no idea why this is happening, but I think DP does not scan for the latency values all the time, only when a plugin gets inserted, it doesn't take into account a plugin with a variable latency.

Many thanks Geert!

I'll try it today. Probably go with the variable to save CPU.

BTW, where do you find the preferences for the plugins?

I have not tested this, but I think if you select 'fixed' it still conserves CPU power if you don't use all bands on the plugin, the only thing that is fixed then is the latency, the time it takes to output the data.

I would think it would even be conserving more CPU power as with the fixed setting the CPU has now more time to do its calculations when only one band is enabled, but I am not sure about this. You'll have to test it. I'd choose the fixed setting then as it is more convenient not having to drag plugins around.

To get to the preferences click on the PSP logo and then you'll see some info and another 'button' to click on.

I think the problem is that DP cannot compensate for such a big latency that Neon has.
So if you wanna use it while playing, forget it.

I'm not using it for playing live, just mixing. I'm trying to use it for a drum mix, and it throws off the timing of the whole track. Standard Neon is a problem, haven't tried HR yet.

I haven't had a chance to try moving it back and forth like Geert suggested yet. I hope that is the cure.

The forum has a lot of people discussing problems with Logic also. I would try the demo first before buying. I made the mistake of not doing so. Try copying a track and inserting the eq on just one of the tracks to see if there is any phasing going on. It was not subtle at all.

Buyer beware, I guess.

I'll post the results tomorrow. Hopefully it will be good news.

DP can completely compensate for the latency... it's just the variable latency which is causing problems.

The latency is too big to be used on a realtime/live instrument, but can be used on seperate tracks in a mix.

Ok, got it working!

DP latency compensation is turned on, Neon's delay comp. is off, and the latency is set at fixed. After activating a band, I grab and move it to another track, then back. It now works fine.

Thanks for the info Geert!
