whats the big hype
its just an obnoxiously loud SCSI drive with a sata connection.

SAS is over blown hype.
and there isnt a home studio that needs its, not to mention pro studio.
NLE with multiple workstations doing animation yes....

Ive been using 15k drives since 1999. They are very quiet
and have no heat issues. Im sure some cheaper drives
may have issues but not the seagate Cheetah series.

I suppose if you use a small # of tracks 7k is fine
Once and a while I have clients with as many as 250
tracks. No Sata drive even at 15 is going to
handle it with fx. You really need scsi in some cases.

You could possibly use SATA with a bus mastering adaptec card
but in general SATA is amatuer

LOL
i have yet to see a SCSI drive as quiet as IDE or Sata.

250 tracks (assuming post for film) is not that many. i have seen over 300.
all done on SATA. either split tracks (pro fools, Samp, N3/cubase) or on raided drives for those programs who cant split tracks.

the only benefit to SCSI or WD raptor 10k drives is the lower seek times.
and then only needed is zooming to track acrross all tracks instead of 1.

amatuer? thats even funnier. i dont have a single "pro" clent using SCSI

OK whatever you say. I wonder why Bus mastering SCSI cards exist then????
I think I'll warn all of Adaptecs shareholders that there is no need for SCSI
so they can sell their stock and buy MAxtor stock, DUH

Thanks for the heads up!!!
