I don't hate Logic's audio. The way Logic handles fades is far superior to Pro Tools in my opinion. And every one of my regions gets a fade so that's important to me. Quantizing drums takes a lot longer in Logic, but it can still be done to excellent standards. And I know I'm in the minority, but I prefer the way Logic handles multiple takes. I like to see all of my takes in front of me rather than sift through a list. Obviously tab to transient, audio suite, sample accurate arrange, and more reliable automation would be very nice. But I still prefer to work with audio in Logic.

So no, everyone doesn't feel the same, but most do.

Or they're working like maniacs to refresh the thing but keeping a tight lid on it in typical Apple fashion.

Here's hoping the lid comes off tommorrow...

is pt midi still that bad. i own pt 7, but never even tried to use its midi. people say it is pretty good now. i am feeling like dp's midi is almost as good as logic and its audio is way better than logic.

you can just duplicate the track in other apps and accomplish logic style takes. personal preference, i absolutely hate the lack of take lists in logic, the most needed feature for me.

Did you just call me a 'hater' for being disappointed in how Apple has handled the development of a product I paid for? Time to take a break from the computer homey..it's just a piece of software.

If you have to ask if the midi is bad, then no it's not bad for you. For a heavy MIDI user, only MAX/MSP/Jitter (or perhaps CSound) is more powerful for midi (and damn is it powerful!)

If you love a REALLY flexible midi environment (ok, not as flexible as MAX, but that would be a dream...), a scoring window, various types of matrix editing, and have a large amount of weird midi gear that you'd like to control (and not just play/record), then yes... Protool's midi sucks.

If you're just recording stuff with midi that you just played, and getting it to play back... then PT is ok for midi.

I'm actually quite excited for Logic 8. I've been bitching about 7 for so long now. And now that 8 is around the corner... I'm excited. Hope it's good!

David from LogicProHelp is at NAMM and reported that there is no new version of Logic at the Apple booth. Bummer.

They have a Symphony mobile device for laptops. 1.6ms latency with 32 tracks at 192KHz from your Mac Book Pro.

Actually, here is what David posted:

"Hey guys, I'm here at the NAMM show, and a friend was nice enough to lend me his powerbook to update this thread. Unfortunately no new Logic version has been announced..."

Logic 8 hasn't been announced - yet. How do you explain the big, black, closed room behind the screen? Is it a VIP lounge? Maybe it won't be announced, but I'm still hopeful there will be a big splash at the end of the day or tomorrow.

Is it customary for companies to wait until later in the show to announce something? Maybe there's still hope...

No... announcements are not made at the end of four days. You have booth space that costs $20,000-$400,000. You have retailers coming in to airports on who knows which day of the show. You are making your product pitches to the maximum number of national and international retailers/distributors in a limited four day window from booths that are astronomical in cost and with overhead of employees and promotion that is astronomical in cost. No...you don't wait to announce things on the third and fourth days of Namm.

The big black room behind the screen? Storage. Brochures, brief cases, coats, chairs, conference table. Coffee maker.

No hope... no Logic 8.

End of story. Hopefully they'll have something for AES.

And maybe previews of OSX 10.5 and Logic 8 for third party developers with NDAs... but nothing for us civilians.

The wish list for Logic 8 is tremendous, so if Apple is paying attention to what people are asking for, then I'm fine waiting for the results.

Most likely Leopard will come first, then the NEW Pro apps just in time for the new
8 core Mac Pro towers.

Hopefully this won't drag out to 2008, but that's a possibiity.

With Apogee and Apple working together, this could be very VERY good!

Start saving those duckettes.

Logic 8 for sure will need OSX 10.5, which most probably will be released in spring. It makes more sense to me to announce it at "Musikmesse", which wil take place end of March. Apple always tries to ship products within 30 days after they have been announced. So I guess we could see L8 around April/May.

Did all of ya computers broke down just because you didn`t get Logic 8. ?
Did ya all loose the ability to make music ?
How da hell did you make music five years ago ?

Stop bitching about apples poor support and this and that.
Hopefully if/when they release Logic 8 it will be a major uppgrade and they take the tine and effort to make as bug free as possible.

Personally im in the business of making and recording music and if i had to i could do it on a 4 track but it`s just a whole lot easier on a daw and im really happy with Logic 7.
It gives me all the tools i need and more , and i wont upgrade until i know for sure that " Logic 8 " will run as smoots as my current setup.

Good for you.
I presonally dont have the time nor the intrest to learn an other DAW again.

No. Logic broke when we had to switch to Intel Macs (September 2006).

No. We now make music using Cubase.

On Logic 4, in the days when a major bug would be fixed within days not months.

If we don't complain then manufacturers will assume that everything's OK.

Oh, and if you're wondering what broke, try this using 7.2.3 on an Intel Mac:

1. Write some SysEx in Logic.
2. Save it as a MIDI file.
3. Open it up again.
4. Say 'Oh s**t! it's mangled all my SysEx!'
5. Come to the sudden realisation that, in the next 2 weeks, you have to edit 400 MIDI files containing about 50 SysEx strings each for each of 6 products in the current production cycle.
6. Inform Apple that there's a problem.
7. Hear them tell you that it'll be fixed in Logic 8 which will be many months away.
8. Switch to Cubase... but still use Logic for audio, cause that bit still works.

I wish I could find the screenshot we took of a MIDI note that had a velocity of 1,568,243!

Exaxly my point on not jumping on every update ASAP.
Althhough they might fix some problems they also most certanly will bring some new ones.
Thats why im still on a G4 thumbsup but it`s soon to be replaced by
an Mac Pro and the new RME PCIe - card.
So hopefully Apple will have released Logic 8 by the time im about to switc to Intel mac , Although the problems you are having are not an issue for me as i dont use SysEX or any outborad midigear and if i would i would record it straight to Audio insted.
