Good Drums Samples for Drumagog?

Does anyone have any reccomendations of where to get some good drum samples for Drumagog?

I use it mostly for Kicks and Snares...for Rock/Modern Rock Style Songs.

thanks,

Ric

hate to jump in with the herd on this , but the Slate samples are excellent.

I just treated a snare track and the way the new samples fit with the original snare track is outstanding. Even the room ambience fit. That was the first time in using Drumagog in over 3 years that this has happened.

Another huge vote for the Steven Slate Drums. That and my Blue Sky 2.1 system are the best things I've done for my mixing thus far. Its weird how much the average listener can appreciate fat drum sounds. Even my mom noticed my mixes getting better. It also takes me like 10 minutes to get huge drums with the slate samples rather then ten weeks trying to make a bunch of plugins make the real drums sound like CLA's. I'm with you GSF, the slates are the first that really did it for me, and even though its been said over and over, great customer service!! I just got Reason and now I can't wait to start doing the programming.

Steven's Samples are greatthumbsup
But also like kudzu said, get the Drumagog platinum triggering the Albini BFD stuff.
you can customize your drum's ambience on the fly..bad ass.

Just some quick questions here that I don't see on the website:

- What are the various ways of using Steven's samples? Does it have to be through Drumagog? Do they work with other samplers? I have Reason 3 and Reason Drum Kits 2, will they work with that?
- Will they work with BFD? Or NI's Battery 3?
- Are there cymbal sounds sampled? Or is it just snare, kick, and toms?

I'm thinking about getting some additional drum software, and I'm trying to become as informed as I can.

Answers to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the thread reference, Chrisso.

OK, so after reading that through and trying to assimilate everything, correct me if I'm wrong:

Plenty of snare options (14 drums, each with 5 velocity layers with 4-6 hits per layer to keep it from sounding to machine-gunnish). They sound really good, though I should say that it still seems to me rather less detailed sample-wise than the RDK2 samples. I might be wrong.

Not a whole lot of options with kicks and toms.

No cymbals sampled whatsoever, despite the fact that the demos on the website have cymbals in the mix.

It can only be used in Drumagog, or with BFD using the new Drumagog BFD or Platinum. Right? Or can it be used in, say Battery 3? There is surprisingly little info anywhere (the website or that other thread) about the actual process of how to use these. It may be self-evident for the professionals on here; if so, please forgive my newbie-ness.

Please correct me if I have gone astray with any of the above.

Hey Spectacle and anyone else listening..

To clear some things up:

We have 10 kick sample sets, some with various gear chains as well, ranging from smacky to clicky rock and metal, to boomy thuddy pop and vintagey stuff. As you said, we have 14 unique snares, some with dampened and undampened decays, metal, maple, brass, deep, shallow.. tons of options. We currently have one set of birch and another set of maple tom samples with more free updates coming. All our current demos can be heard on the site www.stevenslatedrums.com - I encourage you to listen to as many demos as you can because they'll all reveal something new. We also have a new more vintage style unposted demo here:

www.stevenslatedrums.com/demo/vintage.mp3

These drums (which are mixed rather loud to show them off) have a vintage sound but MODERN smack.

OK, now for the programming:

currently, the collection is not setup for programmers, as its current shipping is of WAV and DRUMAGOG GOG. HOWEVER, within the next few weeks we WILL have a cymbal pack AND mappings for tons of samplers including REASON, BATTERY, HALION, KONTAKT, GIGASTUDIO, EXS, SAMPLETANK, and more. This will all be a FREE upgrade to whoever buys the current shipping disc. The reason you hear cymbals on the current demos is because it is showing how the collection servers as a REPLACEMENT for hits with programs like Drumagog.

Hope this helped.

Thanks for the info. I do have one question. How many gigs are the GOG Samples on the disc you mail out?

Thanks,

under one GIG, but with the upgrades, its getting big..

Other collections include with each hit, the leakage from EVERY other mic, making them take up HUGE amounts of space.. our samples are just the hit with all the goods already processed in it to give it that fat sound.. x 3 room choices

I guess it's only a matter of money whether you have to choose between one or the other.
Steven's samples are tailor made for programs like Drumagog. So if that's the mode of work you are going to use, you'll no doubt be happy with his product.
The other virtual drum products (like BFD and DFH) work with Drumagog, but are primarily aimed at creating new drum parts with midi files and controllers.
If you are after variety, I would say look at the drum libraries which already have sample sets recorded at different studios, with different recording engineers and drummers.

My drums were not tailor made for Drumagog. They were tailor made to sound AWESOME. So whether you use them in Drumagog or you program them with one of the many samplers we'll be supporting, that is what you will get.

There is also a lot of variety because rather then getting one or two drum kits, you're getting a whole drum locker so you can mix and match whatever sounds you like for whatever music genres you are working on.

Yeah man. I'm getting the message loud and clear.
Although the front page of your website mentions Drumagog twice, and doesn't mention any other platforms (Battery, Kontakt, Cubase...... whatever).
Here is a quote from your FAQ's:
"Q: What drum replacement software do you recommend for use with Steven Slate Drums?
A: Without question, Drumagog by Wave Machine Labs is the finest drum replacement software available. There will soon be a free update disc for all buyers of Steven Slate Drums, in GOG format."

"without question Drumagog"

No other software is mentioned in the FAQ's.
Even the topic you started on the Nuendo forum was titled 'Drumagog/Mixer guy's'

This thread is about drum samples that work especially well with Drumagog. I thought I was being fair by highlighting your product and it's undoubted smooth use via Drumagog (the subject of this thread).
In normal conversation 'tailor made' means it works very well. Like Charlie Watts drumming is tailor made for The Stones. It doesn't mean Charlie can only do one thing.

No where did I say your samples ONLY worked with Drumagog.
I'm not putting down your sounds, I'm recommending them, especially when someone wants to sample replace using Drumagog.

I just don't get it. You seem determined to contradict me at every step, even when I'm recommending your sounds.
Did I upset you by mentioning one or two other products on the market?

chrisso, as long as you continue to spread the wrong facts about my product, I will continue to inform potential customers about the truth.

For instance, I didn't start the thread in Nuendo you are referring to, GSQD did. Furthermore, I've stated a million times that we will be ready for programming soon and that Steven Slate Drums is not solely for replacement guys, so when someone jumps in the thread asking about the programing of my drums, I don't like it when you try to insist that my drums are for replacement. The fact that I've told this to you a million times makes your quoting of my FAQ page irrellevant. This is the last I will go back and forth with you about any of this, its off topic and a waste of my time.

Yes, thanks very much, that clears up quite a bit. I'll keep my eyes peeled for your cymbals, and for the updates for the other samplers, Reason, etc. Your demos sound great!

Thanks for the reply bro.

The samples sound phenomenal. There is a huge need for this in the sound replacement market.

Good Samples are hard to come by.
