Outboard Effects Processors with DAW Question

Hello,

I would like to ask for help with the following problem.

I have a Digi001 studio set-up. It has 1 stereo S/pdif digital input and output and one ADAT optical I/O which will carry 8 digital channels of audio I/O.

The S/pdif inputs on the Digi001 are connected to a two channel Apogee A/D convertor which is fed by two Neve preamps. This is where I record my dry signals.

I have three Effects Processors:

Eventide Eclipse
Lexicon PCM 81
TC electronic M-ONE

They all have S/pdif digital I/O on them but, not all have ADAT optical I/O.

I want to connect these three Hardware Effects Processors to my Pro Tools Mixer Digitally to avoid A/D and D/A conversion LATENCY.

Is there a way to convert the S/pdif I/O on my effects units to an ADAT optical format so that I can use the 8 ADAT I/O on my Digi001 to send and receive signals to and from all my Hardware units within my Pro Tools mixer?

Is there a box that you can connect up to 8 S/pdif I/O to and turn these into 8 ADAT channels?

Any advise here would be greatly appreciated!

I know there may not be enough connections but here's a start

Hi

I'm in the same exact situation as you, and so far I've gotten very few answers to fix this issue; unfortunately the device suggested by steveH will only convert coaxial Spdif to Toslink, and I guess you cannot feed it to the Digi 001 's optical in while you're using the coaxial I/O, if you set it as ADAT it won't accept the Toslink so...

The only positive (though not definitive) answer I got so far was from Hosa Technology: they answered my email (where I suggested them to design a module for their Optical Patch bays that could split an 8ch ADAT stream into pairs and send them to muliple devices, then merge the signal back keeping them synchronous) saying that they would've passed it to their engineering team to see if that was possible, and I guess it is, since the Eclipse can sync to a selected ADAT pair, it only depends on how much demand could exist for it.

In the meantime I only can hook up a Lexicon to the Coaxial I/O and the Eclipse (which has all the I/O in the world) to the ADAT 1/2 pair.

Maybe you can try and email Hosa too and bug them about the same subject and see if they got anything going, or anyway nudge them into doing it, we may as well start something...

Hope this helps

L.G.
