Firewire 410 audio interface rubbish!!

does anyone else have problems with their firewire 410 drivers?
I've got a macbook pro with the latest drivers from m-audio and the audio interface just stops working everyday or so. The sound just cuts and i have to reboot.... its really pissing me off now
I also had confliction problems with panther and logic and my firewire 410, nightmare
why can't m- audio make good drivers?!?!?!?!?!

I have some similar issues with my Lightbridge. I have to toggle settings in the control panel sometimes to get it "back online" and sometimes restart.

Yeah, the drivers suck hardcore. I have the projectmix i/o (same drivers) and have the same issues. PArticularly bad when slaving to external clock sources...which for me is 99% of the time. They are aware of these problems and have yet to find a solution in about 6 godd*** driver revisions.

I have a 1.5ghz G4....so it isn't just the new comps that have these problems. Yuck.

If you're not doing Pro Tools, and if you can spare a bit more $ I'd look into the MOTU ultralite. I've had an 828 mk2 for 3 and half years and the drivers are great. I have had a couple hardware issues and MOTU has repaired or replaced my box outright, even after it was out of warranty. Can't beat that.

I've also heard good things about the tc electronic connekt series, I'm not sure how the inputs/outputs compare, but that's always another option.

i also recommend MOTU Ultralite, tho the CueMix is a bit un-intuitive IMO. you can also look at RME Fireface400. their drivers are ROCK SOLID.

FWIW, i'm in contact with M-Audio constantly regarding their drivers. it started back with my G5, and now i'm still dealing with them on MacPro. they sound like they're trying hard tho.

i know it sucks, but if it's not working, write them email. they actually respond pretty quickly (unlike some other companies). power of voices.

I'm using drivers version 1.31 driver version 1.74 Build no. 3 on a macbook pro and so far have not had any problems. I'm using Live 6, Audacity, Garageband and itunes as well as lot's of graphic software, adobe CS etc... I keep the Maudio at 48khz 24 bit.

I don't know if these drivers are the most recent, but again no problems at all with Firewire410 and Macbook pro: 2.16ghz core2 duo, 2gig 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM and a 7200rpm external hard drive daisy chained after the Firewire410.

Have you checked your powersave settings? Or does the 410 crap out while you are using it?

I've never had a problem with my 410, and I've used it on several different systems, including PCs and laptops that are NOT configured for audio by any means. The FW410 drivers operate just fine alongside AC97 drivers and the like.

Are you guys all on Macs or something?

yup, on a Mac.

i was also told to go back to 1.7.4 to see if i get any more problems. mainly i get kernel panic's in PTMP, but i even get kernel panic's at single-user mode (DOS like page).

the most current version now is 1.8.1. i'll go to 1.7.4 later tonight to see if there's improvement or not.

I had the 410 for a while on a Mac. Crashed every few hours. Most of the time
it wouldn't work at all. One of the most frustrating things I've ever owned. I run
soft synths and Reason on a second computer. Since I switched to the Echo
Gina interface, everything's been great.

They're not very good at supporting Windows either. Fairly common knowledge that most M-Audio interfaces are complete and total sheit. I think the 1010 was the only thing from them that actually works. =) I had a 410 when it first came out, never worked. I literally had a fist fight with the salesman at GC when he tried to refuse return of the item because it had software associated with it.

Talking M-Audio 410

My M-Audio 410 works perfectly on my Intel/Windoze system...no driver issues ever. I suggest that those of you who are having problems try a rebuild of your systems from the ground up starting with the OS followed by the 410 drivers to see if the drivers are really the issue or if there is conflict with other software/hardware on your systems. In my experience, Macs have always had occasional issues with getting certain hardware settled. Flame away Mac fans!

Ha, because windows is so stable..... i think by the look of things it seems obvious that the problem is m-audio and their drivers, not the operating system

sorry to say, it IS the driver. i've rebuilt OS from ground up multiple times, meticulously, and i'm quite anal when it comes to having a stable system so i go thru hoops to get a real optimized Mac OS.

just to let you know, my system is pretty solid now that i went back down to FW driver 1.7.4. and that's the only thing i've changed.

you try the new driver 1.8.1 with Mactel and you tell me how stable the system is.
