Hey guyz! Im in need of some help/advice.. Basically, im using Logic Audio's "Sample Editor" to cut up/splice audio. All is fine, until i try playing back the spliced file on another app. (i tunes, quicktime, etc) UNDESIRABLE CRACK/POP SOUNDS ARE AUDIBLE AT THE VERY END OF THE FILE!?!?! I always make sure to zoom right in on the wave and place the cuttoff point where there is a zero crossing (silent point). The thing is, in Logic, its playing back beautifully (no pops).. Whats going on? Much appreciated. |

In general when editing and slicing you should use 'snap to zero crossing'. Yo have to make sure each slice starts and ends on the zero axis or you will likely create a pop. Logic probably has a built in 'auto x-fader' or something that eliminates this problem real-time. You could render the files from logic or edit with zero crossing. I am not a Logic expert and do most of my editing in Cubase but the theory should be the same.

this is a logic bug i believe. i and a friend both noticed this problem when doing projects at 48k. it actually occured with all bounces. a loud burst of white noise. i think updating logic and pro app support to 7.1 fixed it. try the same edit at 44.1 and see if it goes away. sounds ridiculous, i know. |

Thanks statikcat. Appreciate your help. I always make sure each edit starts/ends on the zero axis. I have even tried doing it with "search for zero crossing" ON, yet the problem still exists.. Tru bro.. No doubt there must be some kind of algorithm in logic which makes it sound fine somehow. RE: Rendering. Yeh, i guess i COULD bounce down each file seperately, however, this process you could say - isnt quick.. And i have ALOT audio files i need to prepare . |

Hey quincyg. A bug eh? Updating to 7.1?!?!? damn.. I wonder if its the same problem.? What im trying to do, is VERY basic. Im not recording at all into Logic ATM.. All im doing is using the Sample Editor to cut up audio samples i have. Im always choosing to save it as 44.1. The thing is, its not happening ALL the time. Just most of the times. And also, the popping/crackling sound isnt THAT loud. But definately not useable. |

try the usual logic stuff, trash logic prefs and run disk utility. could be a corrupted autoload or session. i really hate these kinds of problems, i feel your pain. | |

one other thought is that your hard drive could be crapping out. try bouncing to a different drive.

7.1 is a free update. 7.0 is horrible. they really screwed up the sample editor in 7.0. it's really a crappy beta version. ridiculous that they released it as a commercial product. alsmost made me jump afer 8 years. 7.2 is a paid upgrade, and supposedly fixes bugs, but 7.1 works ok, apart from an occasional crash, and so I'll wait for 8 |

Remember you don't have to bounce, you could simply use the function "Convert Regions to Individual Audio Files" on a bunch of files. There are two factors: zero crossing (as mentioned) and then possible DC Offset problems. The easiest way to avoid an audible pop is simply to make a very small destructive fade out at the end. You could also do a very small fade on all audio files using the fade tool - or rather the parameter box - on multiple files at the same time, and then convert. Takes only a few seconds. Perhaps that'll help.
