Pro Tools LE install problems, computer keeps crashing

I'm having trouble with the install on my new PC (AMD 64 3800+, 1024 m ram, 200g sata hd....) I'm trying to install Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 (i picked it up when i was at FullSail and don't really have much funds to upgrade....) I got an original Mbox b/c i liked the Focusrite pres in the one i used before. Anyways, i get everything loaded and the device manager says the Mbox is working fine but when i click the ProTools icon to launch the software it crashes and reboots. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be, or an appropriate fix for the system? Any ideas would help, I've already hit up the Digidesign website but it was marginally helpful at best. Thanks.

how much would the upgrade cost? it's been about 2.5 years since i've bought this software (educational discount...) but i've never had a problem before. is there a patch or do you have you buy a complete upgrade?

PT 6.4 was a free upgrade from 6.x. search digi's site for it.

check out the user forum on digidesign, that's where all the smart people are that can help you:

http://duc.digidesign.com/

you can try clearing out your pro tools preferences files...those can get corrupt sometimes...i think it is in the folder c:\program files\common\dae\preferences...or something close to that...it's ok to just delete those...pro tools will recreate them

if that doesn't work, try reinstalling or ...you could just get the upgrade for like 75 bux... go to the store section on their site and get 7.3 and then (yes it's a pain) upgrade again to 7.3.1

and update any plugins you have as well...

also..there's issues with amd and a bios setting called cool and quiet...i think you need to check some issues with that...

hope that helps!
