MCDSP native plugs!

I don't have a PT HD system,.....maybe one day. So I am looking at native plugs for now. Which MCDSP plugs are killer? I was thinking on the analog channel. Anything else? I have PT hybrid, how does mcdsp's synth one compare?

this is a subject that there is a lot of disagreement about around here.

i personally like FilterBank (the full version).

i don't really love any of the other plugins...

Analog Channel is OK but i would hesitate to purchase it until i have demoed the Digidesign Reel Tape plugin that just debuted at NAMM.

CompressorBank, for me, leaves something to be desired.
there are faithful users of CompressorBank around here though.

Channel G is pretty cool.
it is now available in native version through the Emerald Pack Native.

one thing that can be said is that McDSP customer support rocks!
they are very helpful and friendly people.

cheers.

Analog Channel
Channel G
MC2000
ML4000

These are must have plugs in my opinion which is why we ended up picking up the product line after I used them for a while on a number of projects. These 4 plugs get used in every single project I do nowadays.

Synthesizer One can be cool if you are in need of a true analog synth emulation, and Revolver's convolution reverb is quite impressive (though only works at 44.1/48). Filterbank is ok and can be useful for some things and I love CompressorBank's LA2A emulation (just used two in series on a mix last night and it was beautiful).

You won't be sorry purchasing the Emerald Native bundle and McDSP's customer service is excellent.

If I am thinking on buying an HD system one day, should I just buy the TDM plugs?
I heard that all the MCDSP plugs with exception to CHANNEL G will work in PT LE ( which is what I have right now).

HAS anyone demo'd the DIGI analog tape plug? How does it compare to the analog channel?

Correct me if I am wrong... but I am pretty sure that Channel G DOES work in PT LE.

Filterbank MC2000, mL4000. There's a new McDSP bundle for Native Users that offeres lite versions of some of their products. I'd get the bundle below the emerald bundle. It has the MC2000, ML4000, Filterbank and the Analogue Channel. The emerald pack is cool. I think it includes everything they make but in all honesty the 4 i mentioned are the ones i see alot of people use. it's subjective in the end. You might be able to get a few demos and try them out at the McDSP web page.

The ML4000 limiter is very nice, very comparable to any top of the line limiter out there, I rarely get distorted sound generally yet everything will be pushed to the limit. The only plugin I like much in the whole McDSP.

Filterbank and Compressorbank is quite good, kind of a great alternatives to bread and butter plugins among other competitors like Waves Diamond bundle stuffs.

As for others, I would have choose Altiverb and Reel Tape instead for the respective plugin types.

Their bundle has good price and everything is above average though I won't consider them as "killer" plugins, except the ML4000 is really nice!

UPDATE:
i have since purchased the Emerald Pack and with a reasonable amount of time to play with the plugins, i have changed my mind from when i first posted my opinions.

CompressorBank and FilterBank are excellent, as is the ML4000 limiter.
i have learned to love Analog Channel and although i do love the Digi Reel Tape Suite as well, they do really different things, so they each have a place in my toolbox now.

Channel G now leaves me with something to be desired. i rarely use it.
To answer a question Marcus_S had on another thread, i do occasionally use the Channel G equalizer although it is basically the same as the EQ in FilterBank with a few more functions.

Marcus, my favourite plug-in equalizers are Waves RenEQ, McDSP FilterBank, Waves SSL EQ, Sonalksis SV-517mkII.

Waves RenEQ gets used the most so i guess i could say it's my favourite.

cheers.

Hi j.d.!

Just wondering what's your findings on the Analog Channel, especially AC1? I'm really curious what people like them about, I only find AC1 seems to have smooth out the peaks or punch which to me it doesn't sound helping but it's kind of flattening things up. Can you enlighten me a bit?

sometimes i use AC1 as a mixbuss compressor of sorts.
i find it works to 'glue' the tracks a bit, and it also (even though it is not really the tape simulator plug AC2) seems to add a bit of analogue 'warmth'.

if i don't feel like using the Waves SSL buss compressor (which i use a lot), then sometimes AC1 is an alternative for me for a different vibe.

I just love the MC2000 multiband compressor.

It allows me to do so many things effortlessly. All aspects of the plugin are automated. Dividing the sound into four frequency band that are adjustable and can be raised are lowered and then automated is sick. It's like having four adujustable dynamic EQs besides compression. If you have a singer that has a thin voice you can can thicken his voice by increasing the volume of one of the bands and set the compression uniquely for that band. If you record on a different day and the singer sounds different, screwing around with this compressor can result in matching the timbre from the previous day. De-essing is a breeze.

A friend of mine has the Emerald pack and loves it. I played with some of the plugs and it seems like a good deal. I'll probably pick it up at some point. I definitely like it more than the waves plugs I've heard.
