McDSP Revolver - Like or Dislike? Howdy folks, I just got a demo version of the McDSP Revolver Convolution reverb. Pretty impressed so far, and it comes at a much cheaper price than, say, Altiverb. Any strong opinions for or against it? Recommendations for another verb in the same price range? Cheers A

Interesting. Do you mean miles ahead in the actual *sound quality* or that it just has a lot more impulse responses? If you closed your eyes and had someone choose a nice church that you haven't heard from one and a nice church you haven't heard from another, you'd be able to spot which is which? I challenge you to a self test! ![]()

Revolver mostly has IR's from hardware, which is something I think McDsp did to set it apart from the rest. Yes, Altiverb is still king. As I've said before, it actually puts instruments in a space when it's at it's best. Something not many verb plugins do. But I use Revolver a lot. It's solid and takes less CPU than Altiverb. Often with one Revolver and one instance of UAD's EMT 140, I can get decent verb happening.

I figure that Revolver is a huge step up from D-VERB (!!!!) and I think I can get it for under $300 USD. You mentioned UAD, and I was thinking about getting a project pak. Maybe a used one for cheap? I would probably enjoy the dsp and extra plugs, but i'm a little dicey on the realverb. I'd have to spend a lot more to get the plate reverb. Also compatibility, reliablility etc. Should I talk myself out of that one? Thanks for all the advice. Adam

Adam: You should know one thing about UAD reverbs and PTLE. (this applies if you're bringing the verbs up on their own inputs as opposed to running them as plugins on the track or bus and using the wet/dry control) It's a PITA. With UAD comps and EQ's you just adjust latency for the tracks that aren't running thru them. With the verbs it's different since they usually come back in on their own track, because if you delay the original track, it then gets to the verb late, and then what? Kind of an endless cycle of latency. So you have to make a dry bus and a wet bus. Then you put delay compensation (time adjuster) on the dry one. Real PITA. As much as I dig the UAD EMT, it sucks to have to do all that thinking and routing. D-Verb Non-linear patch is v. nice BTW.

Thanks for that advice Max! I always want to avoid more PITA's. I have plenty already. Looks like revolver is the way to go for now. Reasonably cheap and so far a low pita factor, having tested the demo's for a week. Cheers A
