Core 2 Duo question

I'm currently running a Prescoot 3.2 Ghz chip on my system with only 512MB of RAM. I just got PT 6.8.1 with an Mbox I bought, and while trying to use some plugins, (BFD, in particular), I noticed my system is getting really bogged down.

I've been meaning to upgrade to a Core 2 Duo system for some time, I've got an E6700 chip ready to go, but I understand that Pro Tools 6 doesn't utilize the 2nd core of the chip.

So my question is, if I'm running a 3.2 ghz chip, and I put it a C2D with a clock speed of only 2.67ghz, and PT is not utilizing the 2nd core, with this even have an improvement in performance? I just don't want to build the system and realize it didn't help much because only half the chip is getting used.

Anybody have any experience using PT 6 with a C2D chip? Does it smoke a Prescott even with half the power not being used?

Just upgrade to 7.3. It's only $75, right?
If you already have a C2D, then you're going to want to get some use out of it.
It's better to spend another $75 than not use it at all.

You will find a larger improvement upgrading to 2GB of RAM than switching processors when utilizing plug-ins.

I'm thinking the same thing. My only concern is if I buy a bunch more DDR RAM and still think I need to upgrade, I will probably have to buy DDR2 ram to be compatible with the motherboard that will work with my C2D chip. It gets so complicated....

Anybody running PT6 with a C2D?? Care to comment?
