Cool

Widow PC, Velocity Micro, & Alienware are smoking Apple Mac Pro's for one. It would be pretty amazing to see a Nuendo system running off of those boxes.

Cool

And now PC's are safe as far as holding to the title for fastest 'common' computers are concerned now that Apple has refused to release more powerful Mac Pro's.

Cool

What gets me wondering about things is the Bill Gates Keynote address demonstrating counters, & walls with multimedia capability. Would like to control Pro Tools with a touch sensitive hardware 'counter', or 'table' versus an 'Icon', or other controllers we have to work with these days.

OK, i'm going to vent.. even though i'm not sure if this is the right place to do it.

I just spent the evening playing poker with a punch of TV productions buddies (I won ) that were ragging on mac, i mean TRUE mac haters.. and i've been a mac user since '89. before that i was a champion of the other music underdog, ATARI ST!!! as much as i tried to defend mac, the one thing i don't get is why Jobbs insists on trying to make the mac "the computer of the people"?? ok, its great and all, but lets face it, the biggest remaining margin of devoted users are in the music industry and to a quickly dwindling percentage, graphic users. And yet, we get less and less attention, while "widgets" are supposed to change the world in the meantime, every pci card using SE is screwed 'cause new intel macs dropped pci ports?? and PT is trying to play catch up..
The only reason mac survived recently is the Ipod. and what do they do with the success?? open super "mac stores" in the most obnoxiously expensive retail districts in the world. Yeah, that's a good idea! If a kid buys a mac and all his friends have pc's, and they get all the cool games and programs, guess what happens? the mac gets thrown in the attic. I just wish apple would realize who their main market is and capitalize on it (as opposed to charging around 1k for tech. support!!!)

I'm just dreading the point in time when audio companies begin to say: F*** apple, we'll just do our PC thing.. worried

Again, Sorry to vent, i had a lot of mac abuse tonight and just couldn't help myself..

i guess i need less caffiene.. or more vodka

Apple no longer sells computers and electronics.....
They sell LIFESTYLES!

Once apple's new Iphones become ubiquitous in the telecommunications market, they will have the leverage to convince just about any pc user that they're better off with a mac. PC's hold on advanced video gaming will only last so long now that the next generation gaming consoles are coming out. Once the cost of a mac is the same as a PC it will all be over. I'm a happy pc user for now, but if the price is right, i might switch.

I don't know why this hasn't been done a long time ago...jazz mutant is on the right track but we need more. people are still building expensive consoles or control surfaces with tons of moving parts and wiring, when a large 103" widescreen with multitouch capability could easily stand in for a console and offer much more control than any of the other clunky control surfaces out today...as seen with the iphone, a fully touch screen eliminates the need for buttons or moving parts and is the way to go it can adapt to any application: watching movies, qwerty keyboard, browsing....why not expand that to controlling a mixing board...this is a no-brainer...it could probably even be coffee proof

I never pay any attention to CES but I suspect what you're referring to are "multi-point touch screens."

The first products are hitting the market now with them... I just saw a "virtualized" control surface where you can design your own custom graphic hardware-style interfaces (faders, knobs, etc) AND control them with MULTIPLE fingers simultaneously.

And, as we all probably have it drilled into us by now, the new Apple iPhone will have a multi-point touch screen, as well.

For some time now, vids have been kicking around of an early multi-piont touch screen demo where an user "fingerpainted" with multiple fingers at once...

Looks like it's about time for payoff on that technology.
