That is the main reason I am watching.. Once the new Mac Pros come out I am buying one so I am pretty anxious.

Looks like the Keynote is over. No new Macs, I'm bummed. Like others I'm waiting for the new quad machines. Oh well.

What, those pokey old quad G5's not cuttin' it for ya?

I'm sooo pissed! I've held off on getting a cell phone for years (yes, I was one of the last telecommunications Luddites). Last week I signed up with Sprint for 2 years of service and a Treo phone, now the iPhone comes out.

I hate myself.

Well I am not about to buy a current Mac Pro to have them drop 500 dollars in price here in the next month or two when the new ones come out.. so yeah I am waiting. I can still get my work done on my other machine for now. tutt Btw that analogy isn't even the same thing.

Historically, the pro desktops don't get updated in January. Look for announcements in Feb or March instead.

I don't think so. Dual 2.0Ghz G5's are still going for $1500. And anyway, you'll never keep up, so why even bother? So you wait a month and get the octo core G5, and 6 or 12 months from now the 16 core machines start coming out. If you're worried about resale value, or price issues, you're worrying about the wrong thing. You will NEVER be ahead or even barely current with the tech cycles being what they are today.

Plus, I spoke to an Apple rep and asked her if I should get a current Mac Pro or wait for the octo cores and she said it's really diminishing returns at this point, and in her words "if you can't get the power you need from these current machines with audio work, you're doing something wrong." Don't kid yourself into believing the current quads are holding you back from doing stuff the octo cores would let you do.

Huh? What analogy?

I am not talking about G5s here. I don't want a G5 at all. Are you under the assumption that G5 is a Mac Pro?... A G5 will not do what I need.

I simply said I am waiting for the new Mac Pro to come out because either 1) The current Mac Pros will be cheaper or 2) I can spend the same money on a better Mac Pro. Yes there will be some demenishing returns but you also have to factor the new Mac Pros will likely come with 1gb more RAM and a larger HD in addition to the new cores that may or may not make a difference short term (but I AM making a long term investment you know and in a year 8 core > 4 cores). Anyway I honestly agree in most cases that you shouldn't base your buying choices around computers that upgrade themselves every 6-8 months but in this case I can get by without it and they are right around the corner so waiting is the better option for me.

Sorry, I'm still stuck calling them G5's, like calling every soda a Coke. Anyhoo...

Current Mac Pro's will be 400-500 cheaper in a couple months. I am not made of money here. I am not complaining or anything it is my choice to wait and that is fine with me.
Gotcha.

Makes a lot of sense, if running well they make much, much more revenue with these products then they'll ever be able to do with G5, G6's etc. iPod, ApplePhone, AppleTV, that's the future of Apple, entertainment centres...

Regards,

Roger

they want like $600 for the well-equipped phone -- isn't that insane? The rate of phone-upgrading among people I know is such that spending that kind of dough is unjustifiable. It's just a cellphone!!!
