Why would you get flamed about tracking with plugs? It can be changed afterward anyways.

I can track 20+ tracks at a time and I can use EQ, compression, Guitar Rig 2/Amplitube 2 and reverb @ 44.1/24 with a 128 buffer/latency with no problems.

I used to be able to brag about my computer but as so often the case my rig is only so-so by more recent standards

I am currently running a Dual-Dual core setup (AMD Opteron 285 CPU's) with 4 GB of RAM

I haven't checked but the AMD chips are pretty cheap right now - they were $8-900 a peive when I bought them. I think you could get both for about the same price today.

True North, what motherboard are you using? Also, how much latency are you getting? Is it workable? Thanks for the info.

Very - no problems with software based monitoring - I am using a hearback monitoring rig
